Beautiful Easter morning! Clean & fresh from the snow! Everyone having a great time. I am so glad that I didn’t put Walter outside in the little parade house. I don’t think he would be the same dog he is now. He loves his room and being in the house with everyone else. He is not aggressive in any way. I will start mixing him with the others this week! Let’s pray it all works out! Thank you Jesus for 17 years of Sunflower Sanctuary! 🌻❤️🐾God

Our friends CMM Pet Recovery was able to trap this guy. Haven’t been able to find him a good home. He was on dire need when trapped. Can’t our Sunflower people help find him a home and share?

Holy Saturday gave us snow that we desperately needed! It was so nice and peaceful with the snow falling while I was feeding the horses, donkeys, & goats. Beautiful morning!

The Emotional Impact of Rescue – What People Don’t Always See 💔🐾

Rescue work is often portrayed as inspiring—and it is. But behind every rescue is a weight that’s rarely spoken about.

Rescuers and carers often suffer quietly:

🌧️Compassion fatigue – constant exposure to suffering wears you down.

🌧️Burnout – the emotional cost of always being needed, of never being able to do enough.

🌧️ Witnessing trauma – seeing neglect, cruelty, abandonment.

🌧️Making impossible decisions – when you can’t save them all.

🌧️ No support system – many carers work alone, with no therapy, no backup, no rest.

And still—they show up. Every. Single. Day.

Some rescuers carry multiple responsibilities and that in itself is taxing.

A full-time job, household responsibilities, family obligations, owned pets - not including fosters. Rescue comes with many hats and there are many that don't just juggle one role.

We need to talk about the emotional toll of caring.
Because the truth is: saving animals often breaks the people doing the saving.

If you know someone doing rescue work—check on them. Help them. Listen.

They carry more than you realize. 🐾💕

In honor of National Animal Care & Control Appreciation Week and to all of the individuals involved in Animal Welfare, doing far more than anyone truly understands.

We see you... 💓

So this morning a friend sent me this. Said I need to get it removed. No I won’t. People are rude and evil. This person called at 9 at night wanting me to leave my animals to go and get a dog off the road . If this person bothered to look at what we do, they would know this isn’t what I do. If they cared so much why didn’t this person take this dog themselves. For one thing I am overloaded on what I have because of all the idiots dumping their animals because of a million excuses I am getting tired of hearing . I am up at 4 and try my best to get to bed 10. I can’t solve everyone’s problems, I am one person taking care of 24 older animals. Just because I couldn’t jump for this person they want to trash me. We do the absolute best for the animals we take in . I don’t need some nasty person who doesn’t have the compassion to rescue an animal
in distress and gets angry at the person who is exhausted by 9 at night from taking care of sunflowers animals and can’t do another thing but try to get rest If this person wouldn’t have been so nasty and selfish I would have given them information to help like I always do . Just this week I helped a person with their dog that had been poisoned. Their second dog was dead. They promised they would volunteer in exchange for the $1000 that it cost me personally on my credit card because Sunflower doesn’t have the funds . They picked up their dog that was also covered in ticks that had been in the vet for a week . No word from the time they called for help. So this person who wants to trash us for not jumping to their wishes can go right to where the sun doesn’t shine! I am sick of people that we help, promise to , but never do. Also sick of the 24 hour calls wanting me in the middle of the night to help them with their dog or go out and leave my animals to rescue a dog off the road because they don’t want to be bothered. Not many even answer their phone. But I always do. Then this person hung upon me when they didn’t get what they wanted. Grow up we aren’t here to please you and jump at your every request. Be angry at the person who dumped the dog on the road, or was it you that just didn’t want your dog anymore.

★☆☆☆☆ "i called trying to find a place for a poor dog that was on the side of the road. i didn’t catch the lady’s name but she wasn’t very nice. because it was around 9 pm she said she didn’t wanna have to get up to get the dog and when i explained that i can go to her with no prob...
