More than a shelter. A Lifeline.

After her partner abandoned Bert & Ghia 56 miles from home as a way to control and intimidate her, she eventually found them again but still needed a safe place for them while she worked to leave her situation and move forward.

That’s where we supported her through our Temporary Care Program (TCP).

This video is their reunion, the moment she could finally hold them again, knowing they were safe, loved, and cared for while she got back on her feet.

Hi, I’m Shasta 🐾

I’m a 2-year-old husky girl with big feelings, big zoomies, and an even bigger love for car rides 🚗✨ I can be a little nervous when everything is new, but once I settle in, I’m all sweetness, snuggles, and personality.

I’m the perfect mix of couch potato and “let’s go on an adventure RIGHT NOW” running buddy. I’ll match your energy… after I do a quick dramatic husky assessment of the situation first 😌

"I thought fostering would be temporary… but it’s been so rewarding that I just keep going.”

After losing her 16-year-old cat last year, our foster Rachel wasn’t ready to adopt again. Instead, she decided to open her home to foster cats through Lost Our Home’s Temporary Care Program and since then, she’s fostered 11 cats.

Rachel shared that every cat arrives scared, hiding, and unsure at first. But over time, with patience and a quiet space to decompress, they begin to trust again.

“When they start laying on my lap or sleeping next to me, it makes my heart so happy to know they finally feel safe enough to relax.”

One of her favorite memories? Going to pick up a bonded pair… only to discover they were actually a family of four. She couldn’t stop thinking about the other two cats, so she went back and brought them home too just to keep the family together. 🥺

Stories like Rachel’s are why fostering matters. It gives pets a safe place to land while their families navigate crisis, medical issues, housing instability, and other difficult moments.
