Today is National Rescue Dog Day 🐾

At American Grooming Academy, rescue dogs hold a special place in our hearts. These incredible dogs often come from difficult beginnings, yet they continue to show resilience, trust, loyalty, and unconditional love.

Rescue dogs are more than companions — they become family members, children’s best friends, emotional support partners, service dogs, and life-changing protectors for the people who need them most. From helping ease anxiety and PTSD to bringing comfort, confidence, and independence, their impact is truly endless.

We believe every rescue dog deserves patience, kindness, proper care, and a second chance to shine. That’s one reason we proudly continue offering free grooming services for rescue animals at all American Grooming Academy locations. ❤️

This weekend, we’re celebrating the incredible bond between humans and dogs — the goofy ones, the loyal ones, the dramatic ones, the rescue dogs, the seniors, the puppies… ALL of them. 💕

Did you know World Dog Day was founded in 2016 by Lisa Vanderpump to help raise awareness about ending the dog meat trade and to celebrate the love and protection dogs deserve worldwide?

At American Grooming Academy, we believe dogs are family. They comfort us, protect us, make us laugh, and somehow always know when we need them most. 🥹🐾

Today is Chihuahua Appreciation Day! 💕🐶

Tiny dogs… HUGE personalities. 😅

At American Grooming Academy, we know Chihuahuas can sometimes be a little nervous, spicy, dramatic, or extra vocal during grooming — but honestly? That’s part of what makes them so lovable. Their bold personalities packed into tiny bodies are exactly why the breed has such a loyal fan base.

Did you know Chihuahuas are one of the oldest dog breeds in the Americas and are believed to descend from the ancient Techichi dogs of Mexico? 🇲🇽 They may be small, but they are incredibly intelligent, alert, and deeply attached to their people.

Because many Chihuahuas are sensitive to handling, cold temperatures, sudden movements, and unfamiliar environments, our team takes extra time to help them feel safe and comfortable during grooming appointments. We move slowly, speak softly, use gentle handling techniques, and allow them time to build trust at their own pace. 💗

Some Chihuahuas come in trembling…
…and leave feeling proud of themselves. 🥹

Whether they’re sweet little cuddle bugs or tiny bosses with opinions about EVERYTHING, we love them all here at American Grooming Academy. ✨

From day one, she showed determination, heart, and a true passion for the craft—and now she’s stepping into a future that’s already in motion. With a job secured, a business in the making, and her path expanding into dog training, Cristi is proof that when skill meets drive, the possibilities are limitless.

While it’s never easy to say goodbye, it’s an honor to watch our students grow into professionals who are ready to make their mark.

🐾 National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day | April 30th 🐾

Over the last 20 years, more than 25 chihuahuas have found their way to me…
not the “easy” ones… not the ones everyone lines up for…

The ones left behind.
The overlooked.
The ones running out of time.

Some came to me for just a few months—hospice babies who only needed a soft place to land and someone to love them at the end 💔
Some stayed longer… and every single one left their mark.

They’ve been brought from shelters across the country…
and each one has found their way to our rural Pennsylvania home—
Pibbles Plantation Farm.

Every year when I go home to California, I visit a shelter.
And almost every time… one of those “last chance” chihuahuas makes the trip back with me.

Not because they’re perfect.
But because they deserve a chance.

At Pibbles Plantation Farm, they’re not the forgotten ones anymore…
they’re family ❤️

Through the work of incredible people like Helena Strickland and organizations like Canine Support Teams, these dogs are raised, trained, and guided with one purpose—to give someone independence, confidence, and a better quality of life.

From early evaluations to advanced training (even through unique programs like prison training), every step shapes a dog into a true partner in independence.

We’re especially proud to highlight the impact of thoughtfully bred, well-socialized puppies—like the exceptional Country Star Poodles litter—who show just how important early development truly is 🐩✨

These dogs are more than companions…
they are lifelines.
