December 31 2025 - It's the last day of 2025 and police canine officers from around the region visited Taylor's Heritage Park for some New Year's Eve training with their dogs. Master Trainer Bryan Szostak, a retired Canton officer, said police and security officers train out of the K9 Academy Training Facility (K9 ATF) at the former Wareing Elementary School and regularly visit Heritage Park and other locations for on-site training. On hand today (not in order in the photo) were Canton Officer Brian Zinser with K9 partner Tino, Westland Officer Andrew Teschendorff with Odin, Woodhaven Officer Cameron Poslaiko with Scout, Livonia Officer Hunor Csutak with Kasimer, Canton Officer Jason Wilburn with Merlin and Inkster Officer Drew MacEachern with Dutch. Happy New Year to all!

In Loving Memory of Summit
September 5th 2013 – December 21, 2025

Summit was a highly skilled working dog, having earned his certification through the National Association of Professional Canine Handlers (NAPCH) at K9 ATF. Throughout his career Summit was a versatile asset, specializing in explosive detection, building search, aggression work, and obedience. Summit conducted countless sweeps, insured the safety of multiple employees at the hospital while on duty and was beloved at community public relation events.

Summit was an adventurer at heart. Whether he was on duty or enjoying his well-earned retirement, he was happiest when he was outdoors. He was a constant companion on the hiking trails, in the kayak, or swimming in the water. Above all, Summit was a cherished member of his family, providing unwavering loyalty and a gentle spirit at home. Summits Favorite toys were his Red Kong ball and his herding ball.

Summit’s legacy is defined by his bravery in the field and the joy he brought to those who knew him. Summit leaves behind a void that can never be filled and he will never be forgotten.

Rest easy, Summit. Until we meet again baby boy.

I am saddened to advise that retired Garden City K9 Rudy was laid to rest yesterday. Bruce and Rudy started as a K9 Team in December 2012. This Team was very successful not only in Law Enforcement work but impacting the Garden City community. This Team was a model and inspiration for every K9 Team coming after them. Please keep your thoughts and prayers with Bruce and his family!

It is with a sad heart that Lincoln Park Officer Matt Parker advised recently retired K9 Max was put to rest last night. K9 Max started his career in Detroit September of 2016 training at our Facility. Max was then turned over to Officer Parker in September of 2017. Max had ongoing health issues but because of Matt's and Cahill's attention, K9 Max lived a long and working life that was second to none. Max's work ethic, and kind nature, made a huge impact not only in Lincoln Park but surrounding communities. Max set the bar high for all of our K9ATF Teams. Please keep Matt and his family in your thoughts and prayers.
