Thank you to everyone who came out in the rain to support Spay Taos last night. We had a great time with The Arellano Brothers and an amazing silent auction. Dr Claire brought her family and Ronan got to pet puppies. Here is Sandwich, a mellow, sweet pup from Paws to the Wall Rescue & Behavioral getting some love.

What a wonderful evening at Taos Lifestyle with Spay Taos !!
All of our kiddos did SO great and got to put smiles on peoples’ faces. And Bucky got to see his first rescuers again 🥰
Over 150 animals rescued and spayed/neutered thanks to our collaboration is a huge reason to celebrate and we are so grateful for all of the people who make this happen.

Most of the local animal welfare organizations are dealing with the RESULTS of the severe pet overpopulation problem we are facing. Stray Hearts Animal Shelter - Taos, NM, Paws to the Wall Rescue & Behavioral, Four Corners Animal League, Run Around Dog Town Rescuers, Taos Hound Underground, Dixon Animal Protection Services, Meow Town Enchantment , Northern NM Friends of Animals are all working tirelessly to save stray and homeless pets. They socialize them, vaccinate them, get them sterilized, provide medical care, adopt or transfer them, while providing much needed food and shelter.

They are the short term RECEPTACLE for the problems we as a community are facing.

Spay Taos and SAFE Pet Partners are working on the PREVENTION side. Spaying, neutering, vaccinating, providing support to owners like fencing and behavioral guidance are solutions to the root cause of the animal welfare issues we face every day.

We are all working together to finally get ahead of this crisis. Spay Taos brought together all of these groups earlier this year to explore ways we can collaborate to be more effective. And, it is working! We are finding new ways to be more effective every day.

YES, the shelters and rescues need support to deal with the abundance of strays and homeless pets.

And, YES, the organizations working on the solutions also need support. We will never be able to adopt and transfer our way out of this situation. We must help people with solutions to keep their pets at home. We must aggressively stem the tide of puppies and kittens so that our shelters and rescuers can become more sustainable.

These solutions are expensive. Spay Taos competes in a national market for professional veterinary staff. Drug and supply costs have skyrocketed. Our volunteers help us keep our costs as low as possible, but it is still a daunting challenge to raise enough money to meet our needs. We rely on grants, individual donors and government contracts. At this time we are asking the Town of Taos to contribute to to the prevention side of the animal welfare equation.

Hi guys! We desperately need fosters and adopters for some of our adults/ long-termers/ formerly ferals. Most of these dogs would do best with a canine sibling to learn house etiquette from, but please reach out if you have any questions on specific animals.
Please share so we can free up some capacity to continue our life saving work!! ❤️🐾

Well this little gal certainly gave us all a run for our money! Very smart and savvy and in an extremely dangerous location. So many people stopped and asked how she was, someone even told us she’d been on her own for almost a week! In the first slide is her dead raccoon friend which just goes to show what kind of lovely matter was in the drain I had to crawl through 🤢 and what could’ve happened to her if we didn’t act fast. All worth it to make sure she’s safe and dry, especially with hurricane round two setting in.
Big thanks to Donna and Sandy for the help and support, couldn’t have done it without yall.
She’s tentatively being named Jennika, who was the first female teenage mutant ninja turtle, which seems self explanatory 😂

Transformation Tuesday ✨🐾
In May of 2025, Pepper was a heavily pregnant pack feral, living in an abandoned trailer filled with trash and 15+ other feral dogs. We were able to condition her to go into a crate (see last slide, sorry for the cutoff 😂) just before she gave birth. Though it was extremely distressing not to prevent an unwanted litter of puppies from being born, giving birth to them under our care with people by her side was the first breakthrough for Pepper. After 8 weeks, her pups were transported up to Colorado and all found homes of their own and pepper stayed in our care.
Today, she is the undoubtable leader of the feral play group. She’s confident and social and no longer fearful of humans, even strangers. She is by no means at the status of “normal” dog, but given the trauma and pain she’s endured, her progress is nothing short of miraculous. I’m amazed and so so proud of her every single day.

We’ve got a situation unfolding here with a missing person and dog left behind, starving. Any support is greatly appreciated. We are also looking for a loving foster for this BIG Pyrenees boy.
