Mega thank yous to all the wonderful volunteers that took their Saturday and time to come help at the farm. These days can be quite chaotic and overwhelming but we had such a wonderful group that many of our pending items got completed. I didn't get the names but one family came with teen children and were a major example of great parenting. Their youth were definitely an example of having a work ethic. So impressive. So many people were so helpful and we are all so grateful. Getting this farm back to a beautiful condition is so important after the hit from the hurricanes last year and just plain age. I am hoping Audra has some pictures to add to this post and I will add them once received. I forgot to take any....and not sure my phone has room. Thank you again and be sure to let us know you were part of our volunteer day when you come for products - you will have a surprise waiting!!

Congratulations to Tinsel, left, and Sprinkles, two of the five baby girl kitties who farm owner Pam Lunn brought back from her West Virginia hometown of Beckley. The two sisters have been pre-adopted and will go together to their new home after being spayed. They are so cute and lovable that I know they will be lifelong friends with their new family.

We are desperately seeking the 12 count yellow Happy Egg cartons. Do you have a pile in your laundry room or garage stacked up? I am willing to trade products for a large number of cartons. Last year over 200 were sent to a retailer that did not encourage the customers to recycle and now my large stash is depleted. These are the cartons we have used for duck eggs for years and I am not good with change. Message me if you think you can help. Thank you!!!

I totally dropped the ball this week. One of our awesome Poultry Ladies put in her two week notice and I was supposed to be posting on Monday. We need to train someone to start by the 25th. Yes, we also work on all holidays. I might be able to help on Thanksgiving Day and get you out in half the time. Our other awesome Poultry Lady is picking up a couple other shifts so we are looking for someone for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings. (Ladies, if I have messed the days up, please comment below). It is approx 4 hours per day and you can start either 8 or 9am - I am not picky on when you start, just that the job gets done.

The duties include feeding the chickens, ducks, geese, guineas and emus. You will also be responsible for gathering the eggs (think Easter Bunny position LOL). We get feed in every week or two and you will need to help us dump into the barrels (they have a "no lift" method). You will identify any problems with poultry and put them in our "hospital ward" and you will be instructed how to treat. We isolate any problems to prevent a possible spread.

You must love animals, be in reasonable good physical shape, have an eye for detail and be dependable!! You will sometimes add shavings to the pens or rake to level the moonscape that chickens will create or fix breeches in the pens. Our emus are sweethearts (actually downright annoying wanting to help you) and even the geese are sweet. Pay isn't great but it is all we can do. Definitely looking for someone long term.

Prepare to get dirty, learn how to fix automatic waterers (so a little bit of mechanical aptitude is needed), good critical thinking skills aka common sense, on how we can improve if something isn't working.

Male or females are welcome, and of course retirees are welcome. Pay is weekly. Living near the farm is also a plus!! Please contact Pam at [email protected] if you are interested to set up an interview.

My Dad came from the coal camps of West Virginia and enlisted in the Marines during WWII as did many patriotic young men. The Moms hugged them goodbye, not knowing if they would ever see them again, and many did not. I am so proud of the courage our Veterans show (and have shown for many years) and proud of so many in our family that have continued the tradition. Of course, I am a bit partial to the Marines, well, a lot partial, but thankful for all of those who sacrificed to keep us free. Semper Fi! Oorah!

Would somebody please adopt Shelby so we don’t have to send her to rehab? She’s been partying much too hard in the kitty cottage lately and needs a nice, stable home.
