We were able to get out and about a bit before this past week’s crazy weather took over.

Thank you Natalie, Lauren, Hanna, Michelle, and Kieley for getting us out and about at the League of Maryland Horsemen & Howard County-Iron Bridge Hounds hunter pace.

Congratulations to Payton, Mikaila, and Paisley on a successful outing to Thurmont Riding Club Inc. where each pair earned a champion or reserve. Special shout out to Bob who completed his first jumper courses.

Lastly, we are so lucky to be able to spend some of our time out of the ring at home. The view of the Piney Run Reservoir doesn’t get old!

This past weekend was one of many firsts. Piper & Sassy both made their lead line debut, Payton & Bob completed their first course together, Mikaila & Sassy moved up to the 2’ equitation, and Paisley & Lipstick went to their first horse show with us.

I loved running into some extended family and getting to compete alongside them at the show. Another added bonus was leading Piper in her first show. Her mom Taylor and I grew up showing together with HCHSA, MHSA, & IEA. It’s been great to see Taylor back ringside in this new role.

Thank you to Thurmont Riding Club for providing us with a perfect place to showcase what we’ve been working on. The safety protocols you had in place made this outing possible!

What is IEA?

-Throughout the months of September and March/April, riders compete on horses that are provided by the hosting team(s).

-Riders in grades 4-8 and 9-12 compete in classes based on experience level (from beginner to open), and are judged on their equitation as well as the ability to adapt quickly to a new horse.

-Riders and trainers alike love it because it supports the development of horsemanship, adaptability, sportsmanship, confidence, and leadership.

-Lastly, riders also love the team environment (you compete individually but earn points for your team) and the ability to meet other local riders.

Sassy & Bob enjoyed their first field trip of the year! This was Bob’s first field trip since transitioning off the racetrack. Less than a year ago he was showcasing his race skills at Pimlico. Congratulations to both riders, horses, and families on a successful & positive start to the summer show season! Thank you to our team for keeping the horses healthy, happy, and comfortable 💕

As another IEA season comes to a close, a new chapter begins. It’s been an amazing journey starting, growing, and coaching Hidden Lane Farm’s IEA team for the past 3 seasons. I’ve had the opportunity to mentor over 20 riders throughout the time and look forward to shaping more future horsemen. Catch riding is no easy feat, but through the experience that IEA offers, each one of these riders have become more resilient, adaptable, and tactful. Thank you to the farm owners, horse owners, parents, and other trainers who helped these past 3 seasons happen. It’s truly a community effort to put on the practices, shows, and other events that make IEA happen. Reach out directly or complete the form below if you’re interested in having your rider become a part of what we’re building for the 2026-27 season!
