HAPPY HALLOWEEN FROM LEGEND ACRES 🎃🐾

Whether your dog is dressed as a pumpkin or hiding in the back room, tonight is about keeping them safe and comfortable.

• Keep ID tags on, and keep a leash or gate between your dog and the front door.
• Offer a quiet room with a chew and white noise if the doorbell is too much.
• Keep chocolate, candy and anything with xylitol out of reach. If your dog eats something unsafe, call your veterinarian or ASPCA Poison Control at (888) 426-4435.
• Costumes are optional. If your dog doesn't love it, a pumpkin bandana is plenty.

Have a costume photo? Enter our Barktober virtual contest through November 8.

Happy Halloween!

WHY HALLOWEEN NIGHT IS SO HARD: TRIGGER STACKING 🎃

One doorbell? A dog can handle that. Then a costume. Then a shout. Then another doorbell. Then a loud bang down the street.

Stress adds up. By the fifth trigger, a dog who is usually okay can suddenly react.

If your dog is struggling tonight:
• Move to the safe room
• Turn up the white noise
• Offer a chew or lick mat
• Don't push for "one more" greeting

Nothing is wrong with your dog. It's just been a LOT.

Learn the training behind it, at your pace: Behavior Modification Foundations, our on-demand course.

ONE CLASS CAN INTRODUCE A SKILL. REPETITION IS WHAT STARTS MAKING IT USEFUL.

Week two in Peoria gives us something important that day one cannot: comparison.

What became easier after a week of practice? Where did communication become clearer? What still changes when another dog moves nearby? Where does the handler's timing improve? Where does the dog recover faster?

These are the changes worth watching.

Progress does not always photograph like a dramatic before-and-after. Sometimes it is a dog turning back toward the handler a little sooner. A leash becoming softer. A handler reinforcing at exactly the right moment. A team recovering and trying again.

Those small moments are how useful real-world skills are built.
