Some horses find their people in the most unexpected ways.

Before Shadow ever belonged to Stephania, she was a young Palomino mare who would follow Stephania and her beloved horse, Mr. Snickers, every chance she got. Something about Shadow always stood out.

When Shadow's future became uncertain after her owner suffered a serious riding injury, and around the same time Stephania lost her cherished Mr. Snickers, life brought two heartbreaks together. Though she wasn't ready for another horse, she knew she couldn't let Shadow's story end with a trip back to a horse trader.

So she took a chance.

For two years, Stephania poured her heart into building trust. No shortcuts. No rushing. Just patience, groundwork, and showing up every day.

The day she finally swung a leg over Shadow's back for the very first time was a moment she'll never forget. The trust between them was undeniable, and in that quiet moment, she felt Mr. Snickers with her, as if he were blessing the next chapter of her journey.

Today, Shadow and Stephania are thriving at Wild Horse Ranch. Their story is a reminder that sometimes the horses we rescue end up rescuing us right back.

We're so grateful they are part of our ranch family. ❤️

Lisa and Buckeye aren’t trying to impress anyone—they’re just out here doing the work and enjoying the ride.

Buckeye is a massive Gypsy Vanner, Percheron, Friesian mix… built like a freight train with a soft heart if you earn it.

And Lisa? She shows up. Takes the lessons. Keeps learning. Keeps riding.

It’s not polished. It’s not perfect. But it’s real, and it’s getting better every day.

And that kind of effort? That’s what makes a horse and rider.
