ADOPT ME AT MUTTVILLE! (San Francisco CA): Tango (Retriever, Golden | Female | 56 lbs (large)) If you’re looking for a senior golden retriever with just a sprinkle of sugar across her snout, let us introduce to you our lovely lady, Tango! As you know, pint-sized pups are the majority here at Muttville, so you have jump on the larger mutts when you see them. We don’t know for sure, but we think Miss Tango will just fly off the shelf, she’s been very sweet with the other dogs and cuddly with her human companions. This spunky senior has no trouble ambulating, but she does take a while to get up from a seated position… https://muttville.org/mutt/tango-13516

ADOPT ME AT MUTTVILLE! (San Francisco CA): Fringe (Chihuahua | Female | 8 lbs (small)) As anyone with bangs can attest, they sometimes get in your eyes and impair your vision. Though she prefers the British term, Fringe, that may be the case for our newest cute chihuahua (just kidding, Miss Fringe is blind but we prefer a bit of backstory). What this snow-white senior lacks in eyesight she makes up for in treat-based enthusiasm, and she’s able to find her way around through a bit of trial and error. Of course, Fringe is highly portable, weighing in at only six pounds, so you could easily carry her with you… https://muttville.org/mutt/fringe-13519

ADOPT ME AT MUTTVILLE! (San Francisco CA): Crimped (Shih Tzu | 17 lbs (small)) Crimped hair was popular back in the 80’s and 90’s, but, much like many things these days, it can be delightfully retro as our new Shih Tzu mix can attest. His silky white fur shows that crimped hair is still in style today (or, even if it isn’t, we don’t have the heart to break it to our cutie, Crimped). This mellow mutt was found as a stray, just wandering the streets, and we couldn’t be happier that he’s found his way to Muttville. This senior sweetie has been polite with the other dogs and friendly with the more… https://muttville.org/mutt/crimped-13505

ADOPT ME AT MUTTVILLE! (San Francisco CA): Hex (Chihuahua | Male | 6 lbs (toy)) His name is Hex and make no mistake, this little chi will put a spell on you. One look at his lacy scruff boa and perfect ballet feets (second position, no slippers) will heal your heart and vanquish the blues. His quiet calm and mesmerizing tail wag? Enemies of anxiety. He likes a jaunt outside and mixes well with good dogs and gentle people. And those eyes! Genuine soul stirrers framed by ears that deliver dopamine like a good hug. Looking for a portable font of good vibes, affection and crowd-pleasing adorability? If… https://muttville.org/mutt/hex-13499

ADOPT ME AT MUTTVILLE! (San Francisco CA): Wisdom (Chihuahua | Female | 4 lbs (toy)) Some people spend their whole lives in the pursuit of Wisdom, but we’re happy to report that you don’t have to – she’s here at Muttville! This mini mutt is extremely portable at under 5 pounds, so you can carry Wisdom wherever you go! Wisdom is a quiet gal who likes the finer things in life, like comfy couches, gentle pets, and tasty treats, so she’s looking for a forever home where she can find those in abundance. In return, she’s willing to exchange some of her sage doggy Wisdom – we’re not saying she knows the meaning… https://muttville.org/mutt/wisdom-13487

ADOPT ME AT MUTTVILLE! (San Francisco CA): Maple (Chihuahua, Long Coat | Female | 8 lbs (small)) As autumn approaches, you start to feel that the air is just a little crisper, the leaves start to change colors, and your favorite flavors are back on the shelves – apple, pumpkin spice, and Maple! This syrupy colored chi is just as sweet and as sticky as her namesake; Maple is never happier than when she is curled up in someone’s lap. Miss Maple gets along well with the other mutts at Muttville, and she follows the humans around looking beseechingly for treats or cuddles. With her impressive fur coat that embodies THE… https://muttville.org/mutt/maple-13478

Saddest news ever, I loved sweet Tika 😭

Saddest news ever, I loved sweet Tika 😭

Tika,

I really thought you were going to live forever. I thought we had more time, but there are things we cannot control. Our hearts are shattered.

We had recently found out that you had two tumours in your liver. It was hard to believe, because you were still so full of life, still jumping up, running, doing everything as usual. But it was determined that those tumors would quickly grow and take a toll on your tiny body, so we followed the advice of all of your amazing vets and went ahead with surgery to remove them.

The surgery went very well, the tumours were successfully removed, and you were discharged from the clinic without any complications. That first night home, we treated you to your favourite food (chickunz!) and it seemed like your recovery was going smoothly. We were so happy to have you home. But after your second day home, something had changed. You looked so tired, not quite yourself, yet peaceful.

At first, the vets believed it was the effect of the pain killers, but we soon found out that it was your body that was slowly giving up, and we were told that there wasn’t anything we could have done that day to prevent it from happening. It is sadly a risk that comes with surgery on senior dogs.

You spent your last moments at home, held by your favourite dads. We feel numb and lost now that you are gone, but we are so grateful you were surrounded by your family during your last moments.

We wish you were still here. You were supposed to prance through your golden years. We just hope you know how deeply you were loved, Tika. By us, but also by so many others who came to know you. You truly loved meeting new friends, and you were larger than life.

Rest peacefully, our sweet, sweet Tika. We will never, ever forget you.

Love,
Your favourite dads

To all of Tika’s friends, please be gentle in the comments section. We want to be transparent because we know how much you all loved Tika, but we are extremely hurt by our loss.

We ask for your kindness and compassion in these difficult times. Thank you, and as my sweet old lady Tika would say, bisous.

“Until one has loved an animal a part of one's soul remains unawakened.” ~~Anatole France

Animals are amazing and I’m lucky to be able to make a living taking care of them. If you’re reading this you most likely own a pet or love animals as well. On this page I will occasionally post pictures and interesting animal stories I see around the internet, as well as my own pet pictures and pictures of the many animals that are a big part of my life :)
