Patriot Paws Animal Hospital will be closed October 29–November 1. We’ll return to our usual tricks (and treats!) on Monday, November 2.

Dr. Bruening will be out of state and unavailable by phone or email during the closure—even by bat signal! 🦇

Please check your pet’s prescriptions and food supply ahead of time so you aren’t caught with a frighteningly empty bottle or bag! 💊👻

Every year around this time, veterinary technicians are celebrated nationwide for the amazing work they do. Some time ago, I decided to recognize all staff during the same week because really...we as veterinarians would be absolutely nothing without the support staff holding us together.

I spent 8 years in school to become a veterinarian, and have since spent almost 9 years practicing. I STILL would be entirely lost without the technicians, assistants, and CSRs that help me keep things running (mostly) smoothly.

They are the ones that answer the calls, schedule appointments, draw blood, prepare for surgery, take x-rays, fill medications, trim nails, give vaccinations, clean (more than they would like to because I'm a neat freak), and everything in between. Aside from actually doing surgery, these girls do just about every single other job within the walls of this hospital. I think I can speak for most veterinarians when I say our heads would fall off without our support staff.

So, we've spent the week thanking them in small ways. Our industry partners have been amazing and have provided meals, coffee, so many sweets, and goodie bags for the girls. Today, we're decorating pumpkins over our lunch hour - decorating contest to follow, so stay tuned! If you've worked with me before, you know I tend to go all out for staff appreciation week.

This year, I gave my girls an option. They could either receive the gifts I'd normally spend all year thinking about OR they could take me up on a trip to Clemson - lake house airbnb and conference admission included, AND they would get paid for the days they're at conference. Needless to say, we're heading to God's Country next month 🐅

To my girls, I love y'all endlessly and truly could not be living out this dream without each and every one of you. I may not say it enough, but I'm so thankful for a team that continues to show up, even on the hard days. College football has returned, which means grown adults across America will once again spend 12 Saturdays allowing a 19-year-old to determine whether they speak to their families after 4 PM.

🚨🏈 WE ARE SO BACK 🚨🏈

Here at Patriot Paws, we would like to clarify our official game day policies:

🐾 Dogs ARE permitted to wear team jerseys despite contributing absolutely nothing to the NIL collective.

🐾 “WE” is acceptable when discussing your team despite your last recorded 40-yard dash probably being in elementary school.

🐾 Calories consumed while College GameDay is on DO NOT COUNT. This is veterinary medicine, not human medicine. Don’t ask us to defend that scientifically.

🐾 Screaming “CATCH THE BALL!” at a Division I receiver while dropping a mozzarella stick onto your own shirt is encouraged.

🐾 Your dog does NOT understand why you yelled “ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!” loud enough to wake the ancestors. Your cat understands and thinks the offensive coordinator should be fired.

🐾 Saying “I don’t even care anymore” while visibly caring more than you’ve ever cared is perfectly normal.

Here in South Carolina, there are two types of college football fans:

🐅🧡💜 Clemson fans — fueled by orange, unreasonable expectations, and the unwavering belief that there is, in fact, Something in These Hills.

Go Tigers. We said what we said 🐅

Then there are the Gamecocks — carrying generations of emotional baggage, yet emerging every August with the confidence of a program that’s never hurt them before:

🐓❤️ “THIS IS OUR YEAR, BABY! C***S BY 90!”

We respect the delusion. And before anyone gets offended: we love you all.
