Please help us welcome Wookie to Westie Rescue Southeast.

Wookie is a 5-year-old male Westie mix who recently came into rescue. He has done well with other dogs and adults, but he has shown that he is not comfortable around children and has bitten a few in previous situations. Because of this, Wookie will only be considered for an adult-only home if and when he becomes available for adoption.

Right now, our focus is giving him time to decompress, feel safe, and receive a full behavioral and medical evaluation. As with many dogs entering rescue, we know there may be underlying stress, fear, anxiety, or unmet needs contributing to his behavior, and we want to fully understand what support he needs to succeed.

Over the coming weeks, Wookie will be evaluated for:
• Behavior and temperament
• Medical and health concerns
• Appropriate home environment and management needs

We appreciate everyone supporting rescue dogs like Wookie, who deserve patience, understanding, structure, and the chance for a better future.

Welcome to rescue, Wookie. We’re glad you’re safe now.

**Update**
Maddie is located in Raleigh, NC and we will not transport her long distances. Transport is extremely stressful on senior dogs, and we would not ask transport volunteers to be responsible for blood sugar monitoring and insulin administration during travel. A maximum distance of approximately 3.5 hours from Raleigh will be considered.

Meet Maddie — Our Sweet Special Girl Looking for a Permanent Foster Home or Adopter

Maddie is a 9-year-old Westie with a heart full of love and a gentle soul. She is currently searching for a new permanent foster home through Westie Rescue Southeast.

Maddie does have special medical needs. She is diabetic and also has a cataract that affects her vision, but none of that stops her from wanting what she loves most — being close to her people. She is incredibly sweet, loving, and happiest curled up beside you, following you from room to room, or snuggled nearby.

A permanent foster home means you provide the love, safety, comfort, and daily care, while WRSE covers all approved medical care, medications, supplies, and food. Because WRSE is financially responsible for her care, medical decisions will continue to be made through the rescue.

Sadly, Maddie’s current foster family has experienced a change in work circumstances and no longer feels they can give her the time and attention she truly deserves.

Maddie would thrive in a calm home with someone who is retired or works from home and can give her the companionship and consistency she needs. She deserves a soft place to land with someone who will love her as much as she will love them in return.

If you think you may be the right fit for Maddie, please reach out to WRSE for more information about becoming her permanent foster home.

Today we celebrate the dogs who got a second chance — and the people who made that second chance possible.

On National Rescue Dog Day, we honor every Westie who came into rescue scared, neglected, sick, confused, grieving, or simply in need of a safe place to land… and every foster, volunteer, adopter, transporter, donor, groomer, and veterinarian who helped change their story.

Rescue dogs may come with a past, but they also come with incredible resilience, unconditional love, and hearts that somehow still trust again.

At Westie Rescue Southeast, we see miracles happen every single day:
• The frightened dog who learns to feel safe
• The senior dog who finally knows comfort
• The medical case who blossoms with care
• The neglected dog who discovers joy and play
• The foster failure that was always meant to stay

Thank you to everyone who chooses rescue, supports rescue, and believes these dogs are worth fighting for.

And to every rescue dog out there — your past does not define you. Your future does.

Happy National Rescue Dog Day.
Rescue truly changes lives… theirs and ours.

Meet Charlie.

This sweet 10-year-old boy recently came into the care of Westie Rescue Southeast after his family made the difficult decision to surrender him due to changes in their work schedule that no longer allowed them the time and attention he deserves.

As you can see, Charlie is in desperate need of a spa day, but grooming will need to happen slowly and gently. He has some fears surrounding having his face groomed, so we will be working patiently to help him feel safe and build trust during the process.

Charlie also has a few health issues we’ll be addressing before he becomes available for adoption. Right now, our focus is helping him decompress, get comfortable, and receive the care he needs.

Despite everything, Charlie is a sweet boy with soulful eyes and so much potential ahead of him. We’re looking forward to sharing updates as he begins this new chapter with rescue.

Please keep Charlie in your thoughts while he settles in and starts his journey toward feeling his very best.

Meet Walker!

Walker is a 12-year-old owner surrender who is beginning a new chapter after his previous owner could no longer care for him due to medical circumstances.

He is not yet available for adoption, as he will need veterinary care and time for us to better understand the type of home that will suit him best.

If you’re interested in adopting Walker once he becomes available—or learning more about any of our foster dogs—please complete an application here: https://www.cognitoforms.com/westierescuesoutheast/westierescuesoutheastadoptionapplication2

Happy Forever Day, Trixie!

Some stories just feel meant to be… and Trixie’s is one of them.

From the moment she arrived, this sweet girl brought so much love, personality, and joy with her—and now she’s found the perfect place to call home with the Woods family.

There’s nothing better than seeing a rescue dog settle in where they truly belong… where they are safe, cherished, and part of a family who already adores them.

Trixie, your new life is full of cozy days, happy adventures, and so much love ahead—and we couldn’t be happier for you.

To the Woods family—thank you for opening your hearts and home. You didn’t just adopt a dog… you gave her the life she deserves.

Happy Forever, sweet girl. You’re home.
