🚨 SOMEONE IS MISSING A VERY BIG TORTOISE 🚨🐢

******HELP US FIND THEM!******

Yep… we have ANOTHER lost tortoise! Just days after reuniting the last one with her family, the animal shelter has brought us another in hopes we can work the same magic twice.

This one is MUCH bigger, and we have no idea how long it’s been missing or how far it’s traveled. The last tortoise traveled nearly 10 MILES trying to get back to her old home!

Missing a large tortoise? Message us ASAP with photos and identifying information.

🐢 SHARE, SHARE, SHARE — let’s get this tortoise home!!!!!

If this is your tortoise and you’re no longer able to keep him, that’s okay too — just please reach out privately and let us know he’s being surrendered. No judgment, we just want to make sure he’s safe. ❤️

This October, we’re bringing you face-to-face with some of the animals that make people say “ABSOLUTELY NOT.” 😂

Spiders. Snakes. Reptiles. And everything your brain has already decided is terrifying.

Think you can face yours? 👀

🌈🐍 Meet Chuquy — our one-eyed Colombian rainbow boa.

Chuquy’s name is a little piece of her story, too. “Chuquy” (CHOO-KEY) comes from Muysccubun, the Indigenous language of the Muisca people of Colombia, and means “rainbow” — a nod to both her Colombian heritage and the incredible iridescence that gives rainbow boas their name.

She’s still just a little girl, but she has very quickly become a favorite around here. Chuquy came to us missing one eye, and while her vision obviously isn’t perfect, she certainly hasn’t let it slow her down. She eats like an absolute champ, is growing beautifully, and is doing great.

The other day, Chuquy got to do something pretty cool — she got to be a teacher. 🩻

We brought her along to the vet to give the veterinary team an opportunity to get more hands-on experience with an exotic species they don’t encounter every day. They’ve been working to expand their knowledge and skills with exotic animals, and there’s only so much you can learn from a book before getting the opportunity to actually see, handle, examine and image different species.

Chuquy also gave us the perfect little mystery to investigate.

Since she’s missing an eye, we’ve always wondered exactly what was underneath. Did she ever develop a normal eye socket? Was the surrounding bone there? Or was that entire part of her anatomy different?

So while we were there, we X-rayed her.

And sure enough — Chuquy has the bony orbit where her missing eye would normally sit. The surrounding structure is there; the eye itself simply isn’t.
Pretty freaking cool to finally be able to see what was going on underneath — and even cooler that figuring it out gave everyone in the room another opportunity to learn.

That’s one of our favorite things about these animals. Education doesn’t always mean standing in front of a crowd. Sometimes the animal on the exam table is the teacher. 💚
So, everyone officially meet Chuquy — our tiny, one-eyed rainbow who is already proving that being a little different doesn’t make you any less incredible. 🌈🐍

PHOBIA NIGHT PREP 😂🐍🕷️

Just breathe… find your inner peace… and whatever you do, DON’T open your eyes. ✌🏼😌😂

A little fear, a little trust, and apparently a little meditation.

But she did it! 👏🏼🐍

👏👏👏And just like that at the community banded together to reunite tortoise and human. Her people have been found! So what it’s one in the morning this job doesn’t punch a clock🤦🏼‍♀️😂👏👏👏

We asked for multiple photos and determined with out a doubt she was the tortoise they were missing. Turtle butt prints are very individualized and a great way to distinguish individuals from others.

She traveled over ten miles in route to go back home. Her people recently moved and she dug her way out determined to be back where she thought she belonged. And at 1:30 this morning, she was reunited and finally back where she belongs!!

Thank you to everyone who spread the word helping this message to be seen and this girl to find her way home. A huge shout out to her owners who have done an amazing job raising her to be strong and healthy!!

🐢 FOUND TORTOISE 🐢

A tortoise was recently found and brought into our care. We are currently trying to locate its owner.

If you believe this may be your missing tortoise, please send us a private message with identifying information, including where it went missing from and a description/photos of your tortoise so we can verify ownership.

*PLEASE SHARE* so we can hopefully get this little wanderer back home! ❤️

Photo used for attention only and is not the tortoise that was found.

Meet pod 49a! Lead by their gorgeous forty year old matriarch, Nan. The pod has 6 Orcas her five sons and one daughter. Nat, Neptune, Nimbus, Nebula the only recorded daughter and Charlie 2. Their Latin name is Orcinus Orca Together, the scientific name loosely means a "whale from the underworld" or a barrel-shaped predator tied to the realm of the dead.

Their gestation period is 17 months. Nan’s last baby was born about a year ago which is probably her last child. Whales and some wild populations of primates are the only species other than humans that go through menopause.

These are transient Orcas just off the Canadian coast.
