HALO Havanese Angel League for Rescue

HALO Havanese Angel League for Rescue Formed in 2002 - Registered non-profit dedicated to the survival and care of Havanese dogs Our goal is to save one Havanese at a time.

HALO is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to the survival and care of Havanese dogs. Since we were formed in 2002, we have rescued 1400 Havanese. Most of our rescues are from puppy mills with a small number coming from animal shelters or owner surrenders. Many of the mill dogs we rescue are about to be euthanized because they are no longer considered "profitable" by the puppy mill – a

7-month old puppy is too old to sell at a pet store; a 9-year old female is no longer producing large enough litters; or there are health issues that would cost money to treat. As long as there is a foster home available, we rescue every single Havanese we can. We ensure they receive any medical treatment necessary and we carefully choose adopters based on the best fit for each individual Havanese. Until they are adopted, no matter how long that takes, our fosters help them adjust to a new life of freedom. We are determined that the life they lead after rescue will be a safe, healthy and happy one. The resilience of this breed and their ability, no matter their age, to move beyond the horrors of life in a mill to become loving, happy family pets is truly amazing. Our work will continue until laws are changed to ban puppy mills throughout the country.

Hi, I’m Kelce!
I’m a gentle, tender-hearted girl who’s still discovering just how kind and beautiful the world can be. I can be a little shy at first, but I have so much love to give. If you’re patient with me, I’ll slowly open my heart—and once I do, you’ll be rewarded with the sweetest snuggles, soft kisses, and quiet moments together, especially at bedtime and in the morning.
Other dogs are my comfort and my confidence, so I must have a friendly dog already in my forever home. Having a doggy buddy helps me feel safe and brave—and it’s also how I’ve learned that playing can be so much fun! I’ve started doing the happiest little zoomies with my friends, and it’s truly when I shine.
I’m potty trained, have lovely house manners, and am perfectly content hanging out with my dog pals while you’re away. I enjoy peaceful walks, ride calmly in the car, and my favorite place in the world is anywhere cozy and close to my people—especially a warm spot on the couch or snuggled in bed.
I do best with kind, patient humans who will let me go at my own pace. Once I trust you, I’ll be your loyal little shadow. If you have a friendly pup and are looking for a soft, soulful companion, I might be your perfect match.
If you have a loving home, a friendly pup, and a soft spot for a shy girl ready to bloom, I just might be the one for you.
I’m up-to-date on all my medical, spayed, and microchipped. My adoption fee is $500, and I’ll be adopted from my foster home in Little Chute, WI.

UPDATE 5/21/2026 - ADOPTED!
Meet Tulip 🌷

Tulip is a beautiful little soul with the sweetest smile and the softest heart. Born on 9/24/22, this tiny girl weighs just 7.8 lbs and is learning more every day that people can be kind, gentle, and loving. Once she trusts you, Tulip absolutely melts for affection — especially face massages, which are one of her favorite things in the world. She will look up at you with warm eyes and a smile that is impossible not to fall in love with.

This playful girl LOVES to run and play. She is fast, joyful, and so much fun to watch as she zooms around the yard. Tulip also has an adorable little “meerkat sit” and will happily spin in circles for treats like she’s performing her own happy dance.

Tulip has made wonderful progress in foster care. She walks beautifully on a leash, is comfortable wearing a harness, sleeps quietly in her crate at night, and enjoys relaxing on cozy dog beds near her people. While she enjoys being close to her person, she is not demanding and is perfectly content lounging nearby on the rug or floor.

Like many mill dogs, Tulip is still building confidence, especially around men and unfamiliar sounds. She has formed a strong bond with her foster mom and happily seeks out pets and affection from her. She can still be nervous around her foster dad, but with patience, treats, and gentle encouragement, she continues to improve. Because of this, Tulip will need an adopter who understands shy dogs and will allow her the time she needs to fully blossom.

Tulip gets along wonderfully with other dogs and enjoys having canine companionship. She would do best in a patient, loving home with another friendly dog to help continue building her confidence, so another dog in the home is a must.

Tulip is up-to-date on her medical care and is microchipped. Her adoption fee is $500. If you are interested in adopting Tulip, her adoption would take place in her foster home in San Antonio, FL.

If you are looking for a sweet, playful little companion whose trust will feel like the greatest gift, Tulip may be your girl. 🌸

Sox is available for adoption. Note that he can be an "only" which is pretty rare for our dogs.
Meet Sox – Your Happy, Devoted Sidekick (in Goldsboro NC)
Sox is a 9-year-old Havanese boy with a big personality and an even bigger heart. If you’re looking for a dog who will truly be your companion in everything, Sox is your guy.
This sweet boy lives for his person. Wherever you go, Sox wants to be right there with you—sitting beside you, riding along in the car, or simply keeping you company at home. He doesn’t wait to be invited—if there’s an open seat next to you, he’s already claimed it!
Sox is incredibly affectionate and loves attention. Say “Up!” and he’ll happily leap into your lap. He’s social, friendly, and greets new people with enthusiasm—his tail goes into overdrive the moment someone walks in the door.
He enjoys toys, loves treats (duck jerky is a favorite!), and even has an adorable little “dance” he does when he gets excited. He also travels beautifully and truly enjoys going along for the ride—he’ll even get excited when it’s time to buckle up for a trip.
Sox walks on a leash, is comfortable with a harness, and is doing very well with housetraining.
What Sox Needs in a Home
Sox bonds deeply with his person and will thrive in a home where his person is home with him most of the time. He would do best as an only dog or with a calm, easygoing female
Sox has had occasional intermittent episodes that may be mild seizures. They have been evaluated by a neurologist. At this time, they are infrequent, he is not on any medication, and his care simply involves routine monitoring and follow-up. He continues to live a happy, active life and does all the things he loves.
Why Sox is So Special
Sox isn’t just a dog—he’s a true companion. His person is his whole world, and he will reward you with unwavering loyalty, affection, and a joyful spirit every single day.

UPDATE - ADOPTED!

Professional snuggler. Expert nose-bumper. Full-time heart stealer.
I was born on October 25, 2022, and I’m currently hanging out with my awesome foster family in Goldsboro, NC while I wait for my forever home. I’m sweet, confident, and very people-oriented—basically, if you’re nearby, I want to be with you.
I love attention and will happily come over for pets (from you and your family!). If you want to pick me up, just say “harness up” and I’m good to go. I’m not scared of new people at all—okay, I might bark for like… half a second when someone walks in, but then I’m over it and ready to make friends.
I walk nicely on a leash, don’t mind my harness, and I’m totally comfortable going in and out of the house. I’m not afraid of men, women, hats, or anything like that. I get along great with other dogs, love toys, and I’m always up for playtime.
When it’s time to relax, I am a world-class cuddler. I love dog beds, sleep on the bed at night, and my favorite place to sit is… on you. Couch? Yes please—though I’m still working on being tall enough to get up there on my own.
I’m potty trained, do my business outside like a good boy, and I’m fine hanging out in my X-pen in the den if you have to be gone for a few hours. I’m pretty easygoing overall, but I should warn you about two things:
I’m a bit of an escape artist (brains and beauty).
I like to lay under your feet—even while you’re cooking—because I just love being close. Safety lessons are a work in progress.
My best qualities?
Have you seen my face?! And when I want your attention, I gently “nose-bump” your ankle because I’m polite like that. I’m sweet, affectionate, and full of love to give.
If you’re looking for a loyal little shadow who will make you smile every single day, I think we might be perfect together.
Love,
Cider

4-year-old sweetheart | Fostered in Little Chute, WI
Kelce is a gentle, soulful girl who is learning just how wonderful life can be. At around 4 years old, she’s the perfect mix of calm companion and playful pup-in-progress—and she’s ready to find a forever home that will continue helping her blossom.
Kelce is naturally timid, but incredibly sweet. She doesn’t rush into new situations or people, preferring to take a little time to observe and decide when she’s comfortable. Once she does, her affectionate side shines—especially at bedtime and in the morning, when she loves to snuggle, give gentle nudges, and offer happy sniffs and kisses.
She adores soft places and being near her people (and other dogs!). The couch is a favorite spot—especially the back of it where she can look out the window—and she happily sleeps on the bed all night with the rest of the pack. Kelce is very much a “follower” and gains confidence from having calm, friendly dogs around her.
Kelce gets along beautifully with other dogs and has recently discovered the joy of play! Watching her bounce around trying to engage her canine friends is pure happiness. She’d likely thrive in a home with another playful, friendly dog to help guide her. While she hasn’t shown much interest in toys yet, she is very food motivated, which makes building trust and learning new things much easier.
She is potty trained, walks nicely on a leash (and is starting to truly enjoy her walks), and does well being left home for a few hours with other dogs—no accidents, no destruction, just lots of tail wags when you return. She’s also excellent in the car: calm, quiet, and relaxed (just be sure she goes potty right after car rides).
Kelce lives peacefully with a respectful 3-year-old child and does best when kids—and adults—let her set the pace for interactions. She’s okay with being picked up if needed, but it’s not her favorite and she appreciates being asked and handled gently.
Her most endearing features? Her magical ears that tip up at the bottom when she’s excited, her soft curiosity, and her joyful little backyard bounces before potty time. 💫
Kelce would do best in a patient, loving home that understands shy dogs, respects her boundaries, and celebrates every small victory. With kindness, consistency, and maybe a canine buddy by her side, Kelce will make an incredibly loyal and loving companion.
If you’re looking for a gentle soul to grow with you—Kelce might just be your perfect match. 🐾💗
Kelce is up-to-date on all her medical, spayed and micro chipped. Her adoption fee is $500 and her adoption will take place in her foster home in Little Chute, Wisconsin. You can read about HALO and find an adoption application at rescuedHavanese.org.

UPDATE 01/06/26 - ADOPTED !
Age: 6 years (DOB: 09/21/2019)
Mabel is a petite, fluffy sweetheart with a big personality and an even bigger heart. She’s the definition of a cuddle bug—once she trusts you, she’s happiest curled up in your lap for hours, soaking in all the love. Mabel is gentle, curious, playful, and deeply affectionate with her people, especially when given dedicated one-on-one time.
💗
Mabel prefers to approach first when meeting new people, but once she decides you’re safe, she absolutely blossoms. She enjoys being petted, scratched, and rubbed, and she’ll happily stay put for long cuddle sessions.
She’s food-motivated and love-motivated, likes to please, and responds well to a calm but firm tone.
🐾
Dogs: Mabel is required to have another dog in the home to be her playmate and buddy.
Potty Habits: Very reliable—rare indoor accidents, and none recently. She’s learning to ask to go outside and does best with potty breaks every 2–3 hours during the day. She holds it all night with zero bed accidents!
Sleeping: Loves sleeping on the bed or in her cozy carrier next to it (bonus tip: pillows or guardrails are recommended—she’s a bit of a bedtime roller!).
Training & Routine
Mabel walks well on a leash and enjoys off-leash play in a secure backyard with her dog siblings. She’s happiest when she gets regular exercise (3–4 days a week). Miss a few sessions due to weather and she may entertain herself by “redecorating” with magazines, remotes, hairbrushes, toys, or shoes—especially flip-flops!
💖 Why You’ll Love Mabel
Mabel is endlessly endearing—she’ll nose-bump you for attention, cuddle like a champ, play joyfully, and keep you laughing with her curious antics. She’s loving, loyal, expressive, and full of personality. With the right balance of affection, structure, and play, Mabel will be a deeply rewarding companion and a true best friend.
If you’re looking for a snuggly, spunky little soul to share your life with, Mabel just might be your girl 🐾💗
Mabel is up-to-date on all medical. Her adoption fee is $450 and her adoption will take place in her foster home in Goldsboro, North Carolina.
