I finally got photos from this sweet Chihuahua's celebration and they made me smile.

I made this little cake for a very loved pup, and seeing the photos from the special day was the best part.

For years, animal advocates have pushed for stronger protections to keep animals safe from people with a history of abuse. Now, Florida has taken a major step in that direction.

Under a new law, people convicted of certain animal cruelty offenses can face restrictions when it comes to adopting or purchasing pets. The goal is simple. Prevent animals from ending up back in dangerous situations and give shelters, rescues, and communities another tool to protect vulnerable animals.

Every dog, cat, rabbit, and other companion animal deserves a home filled with love, safety, and care. No animal should have to suffer at the hands of someone who has already been found guilty of cruelty.

While there is still more work to do, many animal welfare supporters see this as meaningful progress. Stronger protections can help save lives and send a clear message that animal abuse has lasting consequences.

The rescue community suffered a heartbreaking loss.

A father and son who dedicated countless hours to transporting rescue animals to safety lost their lives in a plane crash, along with their dog, Brody.

While many people may never have met them personally, the impact of their work lives on in the animals who were given a second chance because they cared enough to help.

Today I'm holding their loved ones, the rescue community, and every life they touched in my thoughts.

Some heroes don't wear capes.

Sometimes they fly rescue missions.
