He has a face! Scruffy is scruffy no more.

The groomer really outdid herself with this one. We thought he'd come back looking like a skinned chicken because his mats were so thick and deep, but other than a couple bald spots, Scruffy turned out amazing!

He looks, feels and smells so good now. He's like a totally new dog.

What variety of Doodle he is remains a mystery. We're going to call him a Labradoodle for now, but he was transferred to New Lease on Life from a county shelter so only a dna test would say for sure.

He is 2 years old, great with other dogs and people, and the groomer said he interacted with her cat without an issue. She reported that he was a well behaved grooming baby who enjoyed his bath and shave. There is absolutely no reason he should have been allowed to get in this condition.

Just like kids, the puppies say they can't all pose at the same time.

Despite tons of comments and shares and phone calls about the Lab/Beagle pups, they've had surprisingly few visitors. There are three boys and one girl still available. (One of the beagle-looking ones in the pic is already adopted)

They are about to turn 3 months old and are expected to be somewhere around 40 to 50 pounds full grown. Their mother was only 37 pounds, but we have no idea what she may have mated with since her owners abandoned her and the pups after moving out of their trailer.

Speaking of big fuzzballs.....

Meet Leo! This giant cottonball is a 2 yr old Great Pyrenees mix. He was recently transferred to New Lease on Life from a county shelter and has made himself right at home, greeting visitors and eager for a new home of his own.

He is good with other dogs, walks well on a leash and takes treats so gently, although he's a bit clueless about catching them. He is roughly 80 pounds full grown.

Everyone oohed and aahed over her simply because they looked Siamese. Even after they got an "Adopted" sign on their cage, person after person has asked about adopting them.

Each time, we respond, "All of her kittens are adopted, but their mama still needs a home," but each visitor turns away from her without a second glance.

Doesn't Gizzy deserve a home too?

Yet another multi-day grooming project!

This someday-handsome boy is appropriately named Scruffy... and boy is he ever. He's a perfect example of why you shouldn't buy a Doodle unless you are 1,000% sure you can keep up with their grooming requirements.

Even after spending hours with the groomer yesterday, he still is covered in mats and looks like he fought a weedwhacker and lost miserably.

Someday he will be gorgeous but that day isn't going to be anytime soon. His mats go all the way to the skin, so he will need to be completely shaved to start over from scratch then get a better haircut once healthy fur grows in.

He's off to the groomer once again today. Wish him luck!

A reliable used van is expected to be around $10,000. This van allows us to transport a couple dozen animals to the spay and neuter vet every week as well as rush emergency cases to the vet spur of the moment.

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. This is needed ASAP before we wind up stranded by the side of the road with a bunch of animals.

Gumdrop is such a sweet little boy who is always ready for playtime. He's the last of his litter after being rescued from a county shelter, and he's watched several roommates come and go.

His latest roommate, Canasta, will be leaving for her new home in a couple days, so Gumdrop will again be moving in with new kitty friends here at the shelter.... unless you adopt him first!

He's four months old and fantastic with other cats of all ages. He's also great with dogs.
