April 13-19 is National Dog Bite Prevention Week

Any dog can bite: big or small, male or female, young or old. Even the cuddliest, fuzziest, sweetest dog can bite if provoked. Remember, it's not a dog's breed that influences whether the animal will bite, but rather the dog's individual history and behavior.

Adopting a fearful cat can be the beginning of a deeply rewarding journey. There's something truly special about watching a shy, uncertain kitty gradually open up and grow into a confident, loving companion. But patience is key.

It's important not to overwhelm your new cat. Trying to force interactions, whether by picking her up, holding her against her will, or encouraging too much contact with family members, can backfire. These actions may unintentionally create a setback in the fragile trust you're working to build.

Fearful cats need something essential: choice. They must feel free to decide when to hide or be visible, when to approach or keep their distance. Offering this freedom is the first step in creating a safe, trusting environment.

Don’t underestimate the power of choice. Let your cat set the pace—and you’ll be amazed at how far trust can go.
