Carding
Here is Mueller, a Miniature Longhair Dachshund, Punch’s brother. I am demonstrating carding, a technique used to pull out dead and dull undercoat. I am using a fine carding knife.
Handstripping
Handstripping you ask?
Handstipping is what it is, pulling coat out by hand instead of clippers. Strippers do use tools; stripping knives, stones, rubber finger grips, sometimes powder for a nice hold. I have a ton of these tools! Lol Handstripping is a dying art and an old technique used on Terriers, some Hounds and some Toy Breeds. It is used to keep a correct coat on breeds in abovementioned groups, mainly for hunting. A harsh, hard coat keeps them protected on the hunt and elements.
Here I am demonstrating handstripping on Punch, a Miniature Wirehair Dachshund. He’s a dream to strip and a cutie patootie to boot. His coat usually pulls like butter.
He usually lies on his side and falls asleep. 🥰
