Meet Tank and Amos ❤️🐾

These two brave boys recently came into our care and are currently undergoing treatment for heartworm disease. While they have a long road to recovery ahead of them, both Tank and Amos have already shown incredible resilience.

Despite everything they've been through, they remain sweet, loving dogs who are soaking up all the attention and affection they can get. Their tails still wag, they still lean in for pets, and they still believe every new person could be a friend.

Tank and Amos are both available for adoption! We will continue to work with their adopters throughout their treatment process before their adoptions are finalized, so you won't be navigating it alone.

Want to make your workday a little brighter? Marigold is ready to clock in. 💻🐾

Marigold is guaranteed to liven up your Teams calls, supervise your workday, and assist on every task. She is skilled in sorting papers, sending emails, typing on your keyboard, and napping behind your computer monitor to keep you company.

Her favorite office activity? Chasing the mouse on your screen and making friends with any cats she spots. 🖱️🐱

When she's not hard at work, Marigold is a playful, affectionate girl who loves toys and attention from her people.

Come visit us at PetSmart in St. Charles TOMORROW, Saturday, June 13th, from 10am-12pm, where we will have adoptable kittens ready to find their forever homes! 🐾 We are excited to partner with PetSmart to increase our capacity for placing animals in loving homes. 🥰

All kittens are vaccinated, microchipped, spayed/neutered, and have all been checked out by our staff veterinarian. Adoption fees are $165 for a single kitten, or $300 for a pair. 😺

You can also come visit us at the Kitty Cottage during our open hours of 11am-5pm Saturday & Sunday, as well as 1pm-6pm Mon-Fri, during the summer, to meet the rest of our fantastic felines! ❤️

Today is both and , starring Julio! 🐱🧡

Julio is a handsome 3-year-old orange boy who fits both of these categories. While he may take a little time to warm up to new people, once he feels comfortable, his sweet and playful personality shines through!

This fun-loving guy has never met a toy he didn't like. He's especially obsessed with laser pointers, string toys, tunnels, and catnip. If you're looking for a playful companion who will keep you entertained, Julio just might be your perfect match.

We are FULL of big dogs, and they would love a break from the shelter this summer! 🐶☀️

One of the best ways you can help is by taking a dog on a foster vacation. Just 2–3 weeks out of the shelter gives these pups a chance to relax, experience life in a home, and enjoy a little freedom while they wait for their forever families. 🏡

Jade is on a foster vacation! 🐾❤️

Jade was due for a little break from shelter life, so she's currently enjoying some relaxing time in a home environment—and she's doing amazing! Of course, we had to share some of the cuteness.

Here's what we've learned about Jade's at-home personality so far:

✨ Potty trained
✨ Crate trained
✨ Loves car rides
✨ Loves people
✨ Walks nicely on a leash
✨ Gets startled by unexpected noises like bikes, bells, and skateboards
✨ Not a fan of water (at least for now!)
✨ Has done well with her foster dog sibling and could be a great match for the right canine companion after a proper introduction

She's also wonderfully clumsy and doesn't quite realize how big she is. One of her favorite things is curling up in your lap or snuggling beside you on the couch.

The more time we spend with Jade, the more we fall in love with her sweet, goofy personality. 🥰

Meet the Five Acres islanders.

Marigold - the confident queen. 10/10 bombshell. She knows what she wants and she's not afraid to step on toes.
Siggy - the sweetheart. She's a mommy, a mamacita. She wants someone who's ready for something serious.
Tokyo - the yapper. To steal her heart, you've got to have good banter.
Diego - the shy guy. His type on paper? Someone down to earth and genuine.
Trixie - the princess. Trixie is not afraid to turn heads and be the center of attention.
Max - the loverboy. He puts all of his eggs in one basket. He's ready to close it off with you.
Boulder - the All-American. This athlete is ready to steal your heart. The ball is in your court.
Izzy - Sweet and spicy. She's a sensitive gangster.

How Hot Is Too Hot for Your Dog? 🐾☀️

As temperatures rise, it’s important to remember that the heat affects our pets differently than it affects us.

🔥 Hot Pavement = Burned Paws
When air temperatures reach 85°F or higher, pavement and concrete can become dangerously hot—sometimes reaching 140°F or more. A quick walk on these surfaces can cause painful burns to your dog’s paw pads.

🖐️ Try the 7-Second Test: Place the back of your hand on the pavement for 7 seconds. If it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for your dog’s paws.

🚶‍♀️ Warm-Weather Walking Tips:
• Walk early in the morning or later in the evening
• Choose grass or dirt paths when possible
• Consider paw protection, like dog shoes, to protect paw pads
• Utilize other enrichment forms such as puzzles and snuffle mats

🚗 Never Leave Your Pet in a Vehicle
With outside temperatures of 80°F and above, the temperature inside a parked car can become life-threatening within minutes. Cracking the windows does not provide enough protection, and heatstroke can happen quickly at this temperature.

🚘Car Tips:
• Park in the shade
• Choose a dog friendly location
• Take a friend with you so you can leave the car running

🐶 When in Doubt, Leave Them Home
If temperatures are high, the safest place for many pets is indoors with a cool place to rest.

The Golden Paw Gala is our most important fundraiser of the year, and we're currently seeking donations for our live and silent auctions. Gift certificates, experiences, bottles of wine, themed baskets, and other exciting items all help raise critical funds for the pets in our care.
