Charles County. We assist those interested in adopting cats and dogs that have either been surrendered to us from owners who can no longer care for them or transferred from other shelters where they faced euthanasia. We also have many volunteer opportunities, a pet food pantry that offers temporary assistance to pet owners, and a small gift shop within our facility.

He's easy to recognize from miles away with his distinctive ears...meet Flopsie! 😆

Flopsie's just a baby at 3 months old, and he's FULL of life! Every day is met with nothing but excitement and playfulness from this gangly guy, and his energy is infectious. 🐾 Toys and treats make this guy's world go 'round, making gift-giving with this fella easy-peasy. Flopsie also loves to romp around anyplace you take him, and does great in the car in the meantime! He'll make an A+ adventure buddy for any active family.

Other playful pups bring Flopsie joy -- he wouldn't mind another doggy sibling that also appreciates playing hard and snuggling up for naps after! 🐶 Flopsie is likely going to be a big boy once he grows up; and with his energy levels and preference to roughhouse, an adult-centric/older teens household is recommended for the best handling of this exuberant pup. He's eager to learn and is already grasping the ropes of basic commands, such as sit! (He's already graduated with the highest honors from his "How to be Irresistibly Cute" class.) 🎓

Howdy from Boots! 👢🐶

7-year-old Boots strongly believes that age is just a number, as she's still one of the cutest pooches in our Clubhouse and is full of play and puppy love. ❤️ She knows that she's been put on this earth to have fun -- and she would love to have more fun adventures with you! 🐾

Boots is a one-and-only gal who reserves her love solely for her humans, and would thrive being your only animal in the household. Her favorite things to do are cuddle, take leisurely strolls, and be by your side with every new adventure (she's a simple gal!). ♥

This perfect pumpkin is George, who has come a long, LONG way since coming into our care. ❤️‍🩹

George was found abandoned in a park in Desoto, Missouri. His condition was very grave, as he was injured and so sickly that no one was sure if he would even pull through (the last photo was how he looked upon his arrival, and can be hard to look at 💔). Thanks to the incredible care of our dedicated medical team and his foster family, George has made remarkable progress and is now ready to find his forever home!

George is currently back from foster and is residing comfortably in his room at our Kitty Cottage, where he hopes his people come meet him soon. This brave boy was also diagnosed as FeLV+ upon his intake, meaning that he can only be in a single-cat household or live with other FeLV+ felines to prevent the potential spread of infection. 🐈

Despite his diagnosis and the curveballs life has thrown his way, George remains a gentle and patient soul through it all. He loves to chat and stretch out his arms when he's relaxing and wants cuddles. He's also goofy, and enjoys hunting down the tricky puffball at the end of a wand toy. 😹 You can find him cozying up inside of any nook that allows him to watch the outside world, whether it's within a tunnel, a cat tower, or a bed. 🐾

Throughout the past few months, George has remained a brave and hopeful cat, eager to bring love and joy to his new family. Calling all St. Louis Cardinals fans! ⚾️

La Russa Rescue Champions, a new non-profit founded by former Cardinals manager, Tony LaRussa, invites you to "Celebrate Cardinals Championships" on July 16, an evening celebrating a decade of Cardinals champions, dedicated to several causes close to his heart -including animal welfare! 🐾

This unforgettable evening will celebrate the legendary St. Louis Cardinals teams from 2000–2011, featuring iconic players, game highlights, behind-the-scenes stories, and tributes to the beloved ‘60s and ‘80s championship seasons. Hosted by Joe Buck, the event will also include appearances from Cardinals greats and special tributes honoring military heroes and late Cardinals figures.

This morning, we talked about Georgia (previously known as Lavender) and her adoption story, and mentioned that her buddy, Thalia, is still waiting for her forever home. Here she is -- she's officially BACK from foster to hopefully meet her forever family soon! ❤

When 2-year-old Thalia first arrived at Five Acres in early March, she was in incredibly rough shape -- not only was she malnourished, shivering, and her skin in awful condition, but she was also diagnosed as heartworm positive. 😓💔 She had a long road to recovery ahead of her; and now, just over three months later, Thalia is doing wonderfully and taking her heartworm treatments like a champ! 🏆

Thalia is the epitome of resilience and joy -- despite everything she's gone through, this sweetheart shows everybody nothing but love and happiness. She's thrilled just to spend time with you, whether it means cuddling up close or taking a romp around the yard. (And yes, she loves to show off her fashionable outfits -- they also help protect her skin as it finishes healing up! 🥰) Her foster mama reported that Thalia "enjoys sitting in the sunshine and rolling in the grass, as well as chasing squirrels and zooming around the yard at 90mph!" 😆 A fenced yard for Thalia to continue goofing off and exerting her energy in would be a dream come true for her.

Her foster also said that Thalia walks well on a leash, is housebroken, and has been well-received by everyone who meets her -- "she behaves perfectly." She especially adores sitting by windows and gazing outside for hours on end (it's the simple things in life, after all). No matter what, Thalia's big grin and warm eyes seem to grow brighter with each passing day, as well as her excitement at meeting her own loving humans; and we can't wait for that day to finally arrive for her! 🐾

Thalia can be a little more timid when meeting other dogs at first, and may need a little extra patience and time to warm up to them. 🐶 She has yet to meet any cats, and we're happy to provide guidance on introducing the two in the household.

This playful and snuggly gal is fully prepared to take on life's adventures with her long-awaited humans on a foster-to-adopt basis, where her adoption will be finalized once she's officially heartworm negative from the treatments we provide! Thalia is so deserving of the best home, where we know she'll bring sunshine with her everywhere she goes. ❤ You can stop by our Canine Clubhouse to meet her during our open hours, or submit an online application today! 💌

Today's is all about Georgia -- previously known as Lavender while here with us at Five Acres! 💜🪻

Lavender was found with her friend, Thalia (who is still waiting for her forever home! 🥺) curled up snugly on a chair on a good Samaritan's front porch, shivering and scared. They both were promptly transported to us, where they received vetting, care, and heaps of much needed love. ❤️‍🩹

After recovering in a foster home for a while, Lavender was soon adopted -- and we received an amazing update from her mama the other day! 🥹 She wrote:

"When we adopted Georgia (Lavender), we were warned that it would take some time for her to walk up stairs, through doorways, and on leash in open spaces. We taught her how to do the first two on day one and I’m pleased to say that after a few weeks of work, she walks with me for miles at the park happily sniffing and meeting other dogs. When we first started practicing, she could only make it about a quarter of a mile before she got overwhelmed and had to be carried home. Everything scared her -- dogs, people, joggers, and especially bikes. She now barely notices when they whiz past her. It has been one of the greatest privileges of my life to work with her to gain her confidence. She is a happy, friendly, snuggly, SWEET little dog that leaves every person who meets her swooning. I’m so happy that we randomly decided to pop in that day in March. She has completely changed our lives for the better." 💜

Georgia has certainly found her happily ever after with the family she was destined to be with, and our hearts couldn't be any more grateful. 🥹 We LOVE getting updates like these from our alumni families that remind us why we do what we do -- and we are so thankful for everyone who welcome our residents into forever, loving homes. ❤️

Following up on Clinton's Father's Day post are the three sweet puppies he arrived with: Ethyl, Otto, and Lucille! ❤️🐾

These three pups had a rough and unfair start to their lives, having been abandoned in the middle of a rural area where they remained terrified, vulnerable, and unsure of where to go next. Luckily, they were discovered and transported to Five Acres to receive the love and care that they deserve -- and they are now ready to officially begin their lives on the right paw! 🐶

These gangly kids are estimated to be about 10 months old, and they're TINY!!! Averaging around 17-20lbs each, these babies are small but mighty, with spunky personalities that are so fun to watch unfold. They love to receive attention and adoration from any humans they meet, and with their soulful eyes and wonky ears, it's no wonder that they captivate anyone's heart immediately. ❤️

Lucille would do well with other calmer, similarly-sized doggy siblings who can help her continue to build her confidence and encourage her personality to shine through. Otto and Ethyl have been more skittish around other pups during their time here, and have shown us that they would rather be the only dogs in their future households to get all the love from their people without worrying about other pooches taking it, as they had been shorted of that love before. 🥺 We have not yet seen how they feel about cats, and are happy to discuss proper introductions between the two.

from Clinton, our Canine Clubhouse's #1 father figure! 🩵

2-year-old Clinton arrived to us a couple weeks ago with three young pups after being abandoned in a rural area -- while the pups are not thought to be his, he still looked after them carefully during their transport and their stay here like any diligent father. 🥹 Clinton has expanded his nurturing duties ever since, now showing some extra TLC for several other pups under our roof by helping them socialize and play! 🐶

Clinton gets along wonderfully with other dogs, as well as all humans! When he first came here, he was very afraid, but has quickly cracked through the ice and warmed up to everything. 🩵 He now thrives on romping around outside and playing with other dogs and people, whether it means roughhousing on the grass or tugging with some toys! 🐾 Clinton has also shown a special fondness for flopping over onto people's laps for belly rubs and affection, grinning from ear to ear -- he knows no one can ever resist his cuteness. 😉

Due to Clinton's Heeler breed, a yard with a fence that he can exercise in to his heart's content would be a dream match for him -- and a family who would enjoy goofing off and running around with him out there would make it even better! 🐾 He's currently giving his canine companions and our staff members some love at our Canine Clubhouse, so stop by to meet him during our open hours of 11am-5pm today or submit an online application! 💌

Here to bewitch you with the most mesmerizing golden eyes is Akila, our stunning 2-year-old Husky mix! 😍

Akila's name means "intelligent" and "whole," which suits her perfectly. Sure, her soulful eyes and snowy coat turns heads everywhere she goes -- but it's her heart and smarts that truly shine through. She's a sweet girl who can be more shy and quiet at first, as she likes to take her time to get to know new faces. Once she has a moment to warm up to you, she's immediately eager for a play session! 🐾 Akila absolutely loves other pups and will quickly shift into romp & tumble mode with her furry friends. 🐶 So don't be fooled by her initial demureness -- she's secretly a social butterfly in disguise, waiting for the right human and canine companions to bring her out of her cocoon! 🦋 She hasn't yet met children or cats in our care, but with proper introductions, we have a feeling she'll acclimate well to their company.

At 3 years old, Tussy is a quiet and dignified lady who knows just what she wants out of life: peace, snacks, and a home that values her independence. 🐈 After being found underneath a shed, she is now ready to live in luxury and comfort among her own people.
