🎉🐱 WHAT AN INCREDIBLE DAY! 🐱🎉

Today, a whopping 88 cats and kittens were spayed and neutered through our Big Fix event!

A huge thank you to our amazing partners at Feline Good Animal Rescue, our incredible surgeons, Dr. Sapp and Dr. Robe, and Dr. Stegeman for coming in and helping closely monitor patients throughout the day. We also couldn't have done this without our dedicated staff and volunteers who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make this event run smoothly.

The teamwork, dedication, and compassion shown today were truly inspiring. Because of everyone's hard work, 88 cats will no longer contribute to the overwhelming number of homeless animals in our community. ❤️

While today was a tremendous success, we were disappointed by the 27 no-shows. Volunteers from Feline Good Animal Rescue and Lucky PawZ spent countless hours reviewing over 250 applications, finalizing paperwork, and personally reaching out to anyone who had not completed their consent forms.

When appointments go unused, those spots are taken away from other families who desperately needed assistance and would have gladly used them. We understand that emergencies happen, but if you cannot attend an event, please let organizers know as soon as possible so we can offer your spot to someone on our waiting list.

Despite that setback, today was an overwhelming success, and we are so grateful to everyone who participated, volunteered, donated, and trusted us with their pets.

Thank you to our supporters, the amazing FGAR volunteers, and our incredible team. We truly could not have pulled off such a smooth and successful event without all of you.

Now we're all exhausted, heading to bed, and getting ready to jump right back into our regular schedule tomorrow! 😴❤️

Need a wellness appointment? We still have a few openings available tomorrow.

⚠️ FERAL CAT NOTICE ⚠️

Main Street Spay & Neuter will NOT be accepting feral cats the week of June 15th–19th.

On Tuesday, we will be hosting our Big Fix event, where we will be spaying and neutering 100 owned cats, and our schedule is already extremely full throughout the rest of the week.

Please know that we do not make this decision lightly. We understand how important feral cat services are to our community, and we have always done our best to accommodate feral cats whenever possible. In fact, we have never turned away a feral cat brought in appropriately in a trap. However, next week we know our limits, and accepting additional feral cats is simply not something we can safely accommodate while maintaining the quality of care our patients deserve.

We appreciate your understanding and support as we work through this exceptionally busy week.

🐾 We will still be accepting feral cats this Wednesday 6/10.

🐾 Feral cat intake will resume beginning June 22nd.

Thank you for helping us make a difference for community cats and for respecting the needs of our team during this busy time.

🐾 Our spay and neuter numbers were down this month, but that certainly didn't mean we were any less busy! 🐾

This month brought a significant increase in emergency and medically necessary surgeries, including:

• 3 cherry eye repairs
• 2 limb amputations
• 1 tail amputation
• Removal of a piece of plastic from a cat's nasal cavity
• Removal of a metal pellet from a pet's nasal cavity during a routine dental procedure
• 6 tumor removals
• A concerning number of pyometra surgeries

Many of these conditions are painful, expensive, and in some cases life-threatening.

One of the most alarming trends we've seen is the number of pyometra cases. Pyometra is a severe uterine infection that affects unspayed female dogs and cats and can quickly become fatal without emergency surgery. Every pyometra surgery is a reminder of why spaying is so important.

💙 Spaying and neutering saves lives.

Some important facts:

✔️ Spaying eliminates the risk of pyometra.
✔️ Spaying greatly reduces the risk of mammary cancer, especially when performed before the first heat cycle.
✔️ Neutering reduces the risk of testicular cancer and certain prostate diseases.
✔️ Fixed pets are less likely to roam, reducing their risk of being hit by cars, injured in fights, or becoming lost.
✔️ Preventing unwanted litters helps reduce shelter overcrowding and decreases the number of animals entering rescues and shelters each year.

Spay and neuter isn't just about preventing puppies and kittens, it's about preventing suffering, avoiding medical emergencies, and giving pets the healthiest life possible.

🐾 We currently have appointments available and would love to help get your pets scheduled.
