Fearful dogs do best moving. With choice and space. The brown and white pup is nervous of new people so we did a walk on a Flexi, I got Olive out to join us (he likes other dogs, so this was a good ice breaker), and we finished up the session with a splash in the pond. Over the course of an hour he definitely loosened up and had fun and even let me pet him.

A huge part of resolving reactivity is teaching dogs to interact appropriately with other dogs. Most have been isolated from dogs for a long time and have little to no experience with normal social interactions.

It’s why part of my reactivity training involves meeting new dogs. It’s why I do off-leash group hikes. Because formerly reactive dogs deserve to be treated like normal dogs.

Skye is in this part of her training, and I’m having her meet other dogs to build confidence around them and improve social skills.

If you have a reactive dog and this seems impossible, it’s not. Let me help.
