Trading is a popular way to teach ‘drop it’, but it’s not the best. It teaches the dog to trade for a bribe if they want to, not that they MUST drop it - and that’s an important distinction.

Parker is doing much better already, but by the end his ‘drop it’ will be perfect, even with his favorite toy.

Off leash IS the pinnacle.

Because I love dogs.

It was a perfect storm: challenging dogs, an increasing frustration with dog training, and a growing willingness to question what I’d been taught.

I’m a much better trainer than I was five years ago, and a lot of the credit goes to Olive and Oak.

They pushed me to the brink of sanity and completely changed my life.

I had to question what I thought I knew, learn new things, and be willing to be uncomfortable.

I lost friends and got a lot of hate. But I’ve also gained new friends, helped a lot of dogs, and rekindled my love of training.

A trainer’s dogs are their business cards.

Before you hire a dog trainer, look at their dogs.

Can they be trusted off leash? Do they have a reliable recall? Can they interact appropriately with dogs and people? Do they get to enjoy their lives?

Spirit came a long way from losing his mind over new dogs and people. Look at him keeping his cool with this bossy heeler pup! He lets strangers pet him, new dogs greet him, and barking incessantly is a thing of the past. 🩵
