🚨PFAS Detected in Spokane River: What Pet Owners Need to Know🚨
Recent testing shows elevated levels of PFAS--also known as "forever chemicals"--in the Spokane River, especially near Spokane Valley and the Centennial Trail area. These man-made toxins can accumulate in the body over time and have been linked to liver damage, cancer, and immune system issues in humans and animals alike.
🐾 Why it matters for pets: Dogs that swim, drink, or play in contaminated water may be at risk. Pets are especially vulnerable due to smaller body size and behaviors like licking their fur after a swim. PFAS exposure has been associated with developmental and reproductive harm in animals.
💧 Our advice: If your dog loves the river, consider keeping them leashed and away from the water until more safety data is available. Choose safer splash options like a clean kiddie pool or supervised sprinkler play. And, always, if your pet shows unusual symptoms after water play, talk to your vet ASAP.
