Our team at Specialized Pet Solutions believes in giving every animal a chance to live a full and happy life.

That’s why we’ve worked tirelessly to find the best way to help dogs under 20 pounds with mobility problems.

“At first glance, it might seem like smaller dogs would be easier to fit with leg braces,” said owner Angela Boncz. “After all, they’re lighter, less muscular, and generally easier to handle. But designing and manufacturing braces for little dogs presents unique challenges.”

That’s because their little legs demand perfection. Straps, hinges, and padding must be miniaturized and lightweight, but we must ensure we’re not compromising strength or stability. This often requires custom hardware and materials that are more expensive and harder to source, but we’re all about getting it right.

“Their size shouldn’t exclude them from receiving the care they need,” Angela said. “We believe every animal deserves a chance at mobility and comfort, regardless of size.”

We’ve invested in the technology, materials, and expertise to design and fabricate braces that fit little dogs precisely.

“Many of our clients are veterinarians, rehab specialists, and pet owners who needed a solution, but couldn’t find it,” Angela explained. “We listened and created real-world solutions.”

After all, that’s what we’re all about – making sure your best friend has a chance to live their best life.

We just shared the story of Nicco, the former K9 Cop, and his handler, Officer Keith Bogdanovich, and the steps the two took after Nicco lost a leg.

The two live in Calumet City, Illinois. Considering that’s a 27-hour drive from our shop in Spangle, Washington, you’ll understand why our unique casting kits are critical to helping your animal regain mobility.

Each kit contains everything you or your vet needs to create a cast for us to fabricate your animal's brace or prosthetic.

"They give you instructions, and you wet the materials and form this cast around him," Bogdanovich explained. "It hardens after a couple of minutes, and then you send that cast in for them to make the device.”

If you’re still wondering how the kit works, we’ve got detailed videos at https://specializedpetsolutions.com/video-tutorials-dog-knee-brace-and-prosthetics/ so you can take the first step toward giving your animal a shot at their best life.

We’re thrilled to help a new four-legged friend from Cook County, Illinois, change a devastating loss into a new career.

Calumet City Police Department Officer Keith Bogdanovich always knew he wanted to be a K9 handler. He got his chance in 2022 when he paired with K9 Officer Nicco. But working drug busts, traffic stops, and missing persons searches came to an end when Nicco injured his leg while playing.

Six surgeries and endless complications later, Officer Bogdanovich made the difficult decision to amputate Nicco’s leg. But he’ll tell you, there’s no keeping Nicco down.

“He seems to be relieved the pain is gone and he can move,” Bogdanovich said. “I let him in my backyard, and he’ll see a squirrel and move so fast it’s like he has six legs.”

Bogdanovich hopes to transition Nicco to a therapy dog. He found us online. We sent him our casting kit, and the rest, as Bogdanovich says, is history.

“They give you instructions, and you wet the materials and form this cast around him,” Bogdanovich explained. “It hardens after a couple of minutes, and then you send that cast in for them to make the prosthetic."

Nicco recently got his prosthetic. “He's starting to realize that he can lean on it, so it is working out great,” said Bogdanovich.

We’re glad to hear the welcome news that our work is making a difference in your lives. After all, Nicco knows that while he’s not catching bad guys anymore, there are many more squirrels out there.

Sometimes a dog comes along and saves your life. Just ask former Airman Jeremiah O'Mahony. So, when Specialized Pet Solutions learned he needed help with his injured service dog, Lola, we didn’t miss a beat.

“I used to be the life of the party,” Jeremiah said. “I was really outgoing, very happy, and positive. Then I deployed to the Middle East and suffered a head injury.”

A 200-pound door fell on his head; the work site accident was so severe that it left him with lasting brain damage. The injury ended his service career early and left him with a diagnosis no one wants to hear: anxiety, depression, and PTSD. And just like that, his world changed.

“I didn't know what anxiety was,” Jeremiah remembered. “It started kicking my butt. I didn’t know how to cope with it or deal with it.”

Jeremiah looked for a service dog, one to help him regulate his emotions. He and his wife met Lola just as her family tried to rehome her. She’s a 4-year-old chocolate lab and the perfect fit for Jeremiah and his family. He started training her to be a service animal.

“I can take her through every store possible, and she doesn’t pay attention to anyone but me,” Jeremiah said. “I end up taking a few naps every day. I get very easily fatigued, and she is right next to me. She’s a life changer.”

But Lola tore her CCL (that’s the dog equivalent of a human's ACL). She started limping, and Jeremiah worried about her long-term prognosis.

“It was to the point where we could either get the $5,000 surgery, which would later result in the other leg needing the surgery, or we could just keep her on house arrest and kennel her a lot of the time,” Jeremiah said

Jeremiah and Lola turned to Specialized Pet Solutions. Our team cast her and fit her for a brace at our Spangle workshop, just south of Spokane. It’s the solution the two had been looking for.

“All the workers are dog lovers, and they put animals first. That’s really cool to see,” Jeremiah said. “They walked us step by step on how to put it on, how to clean it, and how to break it in.”

Thank you, Jeremiah, for giving us the chance to help you get Lola back in service animal training so you can be one step closer to the life you imagined.

Peaches is the cutest little girl. Her dad wrote this amazing review, and we had to share it.

"My sweet dog Peaches, was having difficulty with her front right leg. After X-rays, a CT scan, and an MRI, she was diagnosed with elbow dysplasia. She was first started on anti-inflammatory meds, then gabapentin was added. While she always loves car rides and walking, these activities were becoming more difficult. The elbow dysplasia caused her pain when walking, which, over a brief time period, kept getting worse. As a result, she was given arthroscopic surgery with little improvement. She then got PRP treatment with no change. She would only be able to walk a little bit before she refused to go any further due to the pain. She was refusing car rides. I decided to try the options on Amazon for ready-made elbow braces. They didn't help and made things worse. I talked to several brace "specialty " internet services as well as local rehab vets, but they really offer standard concepts for braces fit to your dog. One of those services suggested I try Specialized Pet Solutions in Spangle, Washington. After discussing my ideas with them, I knew I had found a place and people who knew what they were doing and really offered individual braces. They design for your pet's needs. The consultation is free, and ultimately it cost me less than a tenth of what I paid before the brace. Peaches and I decided the 8-hour drive (each way) was worth the effort (okay, I did most of the deciding). They are very nice, well-equipped, and capable. They understood Peaches and listened to my concerns and past history, trying other braces. The dog brace was built on time. I learned that, even after casting to duplicate her body shape, a few adjustments are needed to achieve proper leg movement in a brace. They were very accommodating and clearly wanted to find just the right brace shape and strapping. Not only is Peaches walking again, but she insists on it. She knows the brace helps her, and she easily allows it to be placed on her body. I know it is working because she doesn't want to stop walking. My dog is walking farther and is happy on our trips out. I recommend this company to anyone looking to help their pet with mobility issues. I only wish I had found them sooner, so she didn't have to go through all those other procedures. In the future, I will think of Specialized Pet Solutions first".
