One of the hardest parts of rescue is having to say "no."

Not because we don't want to help, but because without a committed foster, we simply have nowhere for that animal to go.

Many people reach out asking why we can't take in one more animal. The truth is, sometimes the only person who can save that animal isn't the rescue. It's you.

By fostering, you become the reason we can say "yes" to a pet on a euthanasia list, an abandoned puppy, an injured stray, or a nursing mom with her babies.

Without foster homes:
πŸ”Ή We cannot accept new intakes.
πŸ”Ή We cannot pull pets from overcrowded shelters.
πŸ”Ή We cannot save lives.

Sometimes, the greatest gift you can give is a safe place to stay while a homeless pet waits for their forever family. 🩡

Casper and Furry Friends Animal Rescue does not offer local adoptions in the Houston area. Our rescue focuses on saving Houston animals and placing them with carefully screened adopters in other states, where there is often greater demand and fewer animals available for adoption.

Houston is facing an overwhelming stray animal crisis, with an estimated population of more than one million stray animals throughout the area. Our local shelters are overcrowded every day, and many loving, adoptable pets are placed on euthanasia lists simply because there is no space.

We strongly encourage Houston families who are ready to adopt to visit local shelters and give one of these urgent pets a chance. By adopting directly from an overcrowded shelter, especially choosing an animal at immediate risk, you are saving a life and creating space for another animal in need.

While local adopters help relieve pressure on our shelters, our rescue will continue focusing on saving Houston animals and connecting them with loving homes outside of Texas.

Sweet Rachel had a little adventure today after her foster noticed she was having some difficulty urinating. We took this precious 12 week old girl to the veterinarian. We're happy to report that Rachel is bright, happy, and feeling great! πŸ’–

Her exam showed no obvious signs of
a urinary tract infection or other illness. As a precaution, the veterinarian prescribed Clavamox while we continue to monitor her over the next few days.

πŸ’ž Every rescue we save comes with a promise that they will receive the medical care they need, whether it’s planned or completely unexpected. The past two weeks have been incredibly busy, and our veterinary expenses continue to grow.

Here’s what your support has made possible:

🀍 Princess started her 30 day doxycycline treatment as part of her heartworm treatment.

🀍 Elsie was spayed, began her 30 day heartworm treatment, and now needs a follow up appointment to have her spay incision checked. She may need additional surgical glue and antibiotics.

🀍 Henry was neutered.

🀍 Auston was neutered and required an unexpected follow up visit after reacting to one of his medications. Thankfully, he is feeling much better.

🀍 Winnie received her melarsomine injections to treat heartworm disease.

Coming up this week:

🐾 Trooper will be neutered.
🐾 Dolly will be spayed.
🐾 Hailey, another BARC euthanasia list survivor, is scheduled for her spay surgery.
🐾 Hunk is showing signs of an old injury. He isn’t consistently bearing weight on his right leg and occasionally limps while walking or running. He will be evaluated by our veterinarian.
🐾 Rachel, one of Reagan’s puppies, will be seen tomorrow morning for a possible urinary tract infection.

Every surgery, exam, medication, and follow up visit adds up, but saying yes to these dogs means saying yes to the care they deserve.

For the past couple of years, Gio has opened her home, her heart, and her time to dogs in need. As a dedicated foster mom and volunteer, she has helped change countless lives, always showing up with compassion, patience, and a genuine love for every animal she meets. πŸ’ž
