What if your food prep station was a powerful behavior tool? 🐾

Almost nobody pictures "behavior work" happening at a sink full of Kongs and peanut butter, but food prep is one of the most consistent, high-impact behavior tools.

Swipe through to see how it works, and why it deserves real protocols.

As the days get shorter, and mornings grow crisp, and I find myself in hoodies, holding my coffee closer as the colorful leaves start to fall off the trees and the mountains turn shades we haven't seen in a year's time, I feel privileged to be able to take some time to soak up the last days of summer at home and with my tiny but mighty family. 💚

I love the accessibility of quick access safety kits through the shelter at Homeward Bound here in Vermont!

Safety and emergency kits should be a. Organized b. Clearly labeled c. Stocked and refreshed on a regular schedule (yes, airhorns lose compression), and d. Regularly trained on use and response.

I LOVE seeing safety at shelters! ❤️🥰❤️

Looking forward to spending more time with this team! And upgrading their break sticks from Humane Innovations | Animal Services Solutions when they get here!!! (Jazzed!)

Our ✨Rescue Pro Harness Leash✨ is special for so many reasons... Here are 7 of our favorite! 👇

1. It is a great slip lead with a secure stopper and maintains its shape. No more trying to get a floppy slip lead around a dog, yay! 🎉🐶

2. It easily converts to a harness, making it more comfortable and less aversive for the dog than a regular slip🦮

3. You can quickly add a traffic handle to help you navigate tight or tricky spaces with the dog 🚗

4. The length and handle are super adjustable, and the handle doesn’t slip!

5. You can do an emergency tie-back 🚨 This has saved my ass a few times working in precarious situations with dogs! In non-emergency situations, it can be helpful too.

6. you can securely muzzle wrap the dog. This has helped me when working in the field capturing dogs and then having to carry them, and is applicable to many other settings when used appropriately 💉

7. you can go hands-free! Cross body, around the waist. 👏

We are so proud of this durable, versatile leash 💪

➡️P.S… did you know I make these in our shop? 👀🛠️

The first 72 hours can make or break how a shut-down dog experiences your shelter 🐾

I see this constantly: a dog comes in frozen, not eating, not moving, and the instinct is to help them "warm up."

That instinct is understandable. It's also backwards.

A shut-down dog isn't calm. They're coping. And what they need in those first three days isn't more stimulation, it's less. Swipe through for the exact decompression protocol I use: what to do hour by hour, what to skip entirely, and how to know when it's time to loop in your behavior team instead of waiting it out.

This is the difference between a dog who decompresses in a week vs. one who's still shut down at day 30.

Want help building this into a protocol your whole team can actually run and not just a system living in your head? When you book a 1-hour consultation, we'll talk through your intake process and you'll walk away with a plan tailor-built for your shelter. Link in bio!
