🦒🐧 Wilde Wednesday: Frequently Asked Questions

1. How will the giraffes do in winter? Won’t they be cold?

Not to worry, our giraffes will have access to a heated barn to keep them cozy on colder days.

Fun fact: In parts of Africa, especially southern regions like South Africa, morning temperatures can dip into the 30s °F, so cool mornings are nothing new for giraffes in the wild!

2. Won’t the penguins be too hot during the summer?

There are 18 species of penguins, and ours will be African penguins, a species that thrives in the coastal regions of South Africa and Namibia.

At Wilde Manor, they’ll have access to a climate-controlled, air-conditioned indoor habitat during the hottest days to keep them safe and comfortable.

It’s Wilde Wednesday!

🐝 As Promised: A Conservation Story 🐝

During recent repairs on a section of the Manor, we made a wild discovery: a huge beehive hidden inside! The area was deteriorating and needed to be rebuilt, which unfortunately meant the bees couldn’t stay.

We called in a local beekeeper, and he and his son spent hours carefully relocating the hive. It took a full day (and part of another), but they did it, safely and successfully. The bees are now thriving nearby, and the hive itself was nothing short of incredible. No one knows how long it had been there, but it was a true work of nature.

We are also excited to share that the beekeeper has offered to share some of their honey for our future guests to enjoy here at the Manor. It was such a sweet moment (literally!) especially for our kids, who loved watching the process and tasting the fresh comb.

Though we were sad the bees couldn’t stay on the grounds, we’re thrilled they’re safe and thriving and we hope this is just the beginning of many conservation moments at Wilde Manor.

Funny story:

One of the wildest parts of buying Wilde Manor at Tarover happened during the closing. We were sitting in a local lawyer’s office, going through all the paperwork, when we looked up and saw a huge framed photo on the wall of historic homes in Halifax and right there at the bottom was Tarover. Nick and I just looked at each other in disbelief. The house we were buying was literally staring back at us. It was such a surreal moment.

A powerful reminder that Tarover has always been part of this community’s story. We’re just lucky enough to help write its next chapter. 🖋️🏡

We’ve been working hard to restore and preserve not just the Manor itself, but the land and life around it and we recently had the chance to take part in a small but meaningful conservation effort. No matter how big or small, every act matters. We’re excited to share the full story next week… but for now, here’s a little teaser. ✨
