We got Lulu 5 years ago when Lizzie was 14. I wasn’t sure it was a good idea but I really think Lulu has helped keep her going strong. Now I worry about Lulu when the day comes Lizzie won’t be with us.

I adopted my pup when she was about 1.5 years. Got her potty trained, and she is an angel. I take her on 2 good walks daily but if she sees or hears something interesting she will not move- even from the middle of the road. She digs her heels in and I almost have to drag her to safety. I know I’m not a good dog trainer 😂 any suggestions? Think she’s a Maltese Shih Tzu mix.

I posted about two weeks ago when we brought her home after two nights in the er. Today she had her follow up appointment to check that the meds were working. They are! Still no fluid build up. And her heart looks pretty normal. Her appetite has been working its way back, but she’s lost a good bit of weight, so the plan is to carb load her/give her plenty of opportunity to eat so she can bulk up a bit. I know that the heart medication takes a lot of energy from her. She’s back to normal behavior; barking at the other dogs and chasing the cats. She also is back to following me into the kitchen. There’s one more pill that disagreed with her at the start, but the vet agreed that it’s best to wait until she’s eating full meals regularly to try again. The results from the lab will be back tomorrow. She’s doing really well though! She’ll be 15 in November, so this probably won’t alter her lifespan by too much. Thank you all for the encouragement! She really scared me, I’m happy to see that I made the right call with having them take care of her

Hi all, I'm wondering if you have examples of strange behavior after grooming. My girl Sunny recently turned 1, it's now very hot where we live and her fur had grown out so much she was hot all the time and shedding every where so we took her for a good trim. After a slight misunderstanding with rhe groomer, she took it a little too short.

Our girl is always happy, playful, loving and cuddly but when she got home she buried her face in the couch pillows (butt facing out, face hidden) ans slept there for an hour. She didn't want interactions of any kind and just felt ...sad? Overwhelmed?

The next day it's like someone refueled her puppy meter bc she's had nonstop zoomies and puppy energy for miles!! It sounds silly but she seems to be faster, more agile, more...aerodynamic if that makes sense? It's like she's leaner, quicker, and a nonstop play machine now.

Is this a reaction to the grooming? Was she initially sad? Does she feel somehow lighter now and more spry? Any similar stories out there? Trying to understand her behavior.

Our maltese is like an angel, most good mannered and friendly dog against humans. He even lay down to make complete strangers pet his belly, since he was born(he is 2) I didn't even once observed any agressive behavior against humans. Take his treat from his mouth, pull his leg or do anything literally he would stay calm no matter what.

But when it comes to other dogs it is whole another story. He only likes other maltese and the dogs similar size(he sometimes get mad even with them), completely lose control when he sees bigger dogs. He starts barking agressively, growl loudly, lose himself over other dogs passing by , his heart races through the roof. It is enough to see any dog far around the corner to start losing himself.

Any suggestions how to correct this behavior?

Btw he is an intact male, not spayed yet.

He didn’t even ask.
No warning, no hesitation—just a tiny, fluffy Maltese with a mind made up.

He softly padded over, those little paws barely making a sound, gave one small turn like he was fluffing an invisible blanket… and then gently plopped himself right on top of his brother like he’d found the coziest pillow in the world.

All that soft white fur, that warm little body, completely relaxed in seconds.

And his brother?
Didn’t budge.
Didn’t complain.
Didn’t even lift his head.

Just stayed there, calm and patient, letting his sibling melt into him like it was nothing.

That’s the magic of Maltese dogs. They may be small, delicate, and full of charm—but they carry so much love in those tiny bodies. They bond deeply, trust completely, and find comfort in the simplest things… like being close to someone they love.

Because this wasn’t just about finding a comfy spot.
It was about feeling safe.
Safe enough to fall asleep anywhere—even if that “anywhere” is your brother.

And maybe the sweetest part?
Having a sibling who loves you enough to let you.

No fuss.
No attitude.
Just quiet patience and pure affection.

Honestly… this might be the cutest, fluffiest moment you’ll see today.

Our sweet Lizzie girl has been slowing down over the past few weeks. She turned 19 in January and has been healthy all her life—just some bad teeth and a subluxed knee. Yesterday’s vet visit showed she’s lost a little weight and her body temperature is lower than normal. She’s not struggling to breathe, but she’s mostly sleeping and seems less aware of her surroundings.

She still responds a little to our voices—especially her daddy’s. He’s been by her side since the day she was born, and we’ve been lucky to have her in our family for the past 9 years. Last night, we shared what we know will be our last night with her in our bed. 💔

We’re going to miss our tiny girl so much. I have to stay strong for our 5-year-old, Lulu, but it’s hard not to feel the weight of this loss.

Thank you for letting me share this sadness. If you’ve ever had a beloved senior pet, you know just how much love and joy they leave behind. 🐾❤️
