PLMR is a 501c3 dedicated to rescuing pregnant dogs from high-kill shelters, and helping with the care and early development of their puppies to jumpstart them to being great pets. “Our mission is to be a “small batch”, high quality dog

Another orphan has come to us!
This tiny boy was found July 2 in Visalia area, lost, alone and dehydrating on the side of the road. A homeless woman picked him up and brought him to the homeless shelter, where an employee there “Fox” was able to help. With her knowledge and skills, Fox gave this baby sub q IV fluid and forced bone broth for 2 days before this little creature revived. By the 3rd day this tiny boy was eating, drinking and starting to play! With careful, consistent nurturing this puppy blossomed into a real puppy!!
Thanks to Foster Sue, we were able to say “yes” to taking him into our rescue, where we will love and care for him, and get him ready to be adopted into his own family!
He is only about 2lbs now- we think he will be under 10lbs- a very small doggy. His ears are the biggest things on him! He wags his tail, wants to cuddle, and play- more pics to follow as he continues to blossom!

Big news! Our mom “Nellie” got her forever home, and will be joining her new family Monday. That opened up a spot for our foster Sue to take in a creature in need-
Meet this little girl! She was found running the streets of Bakersfield, abandoned and alone. The amazing rescue network out there took her in, and reached out to us. Thanks to Foster Sue, we could say “yes”, and part of my Bakersfield trip yesterday was bringing her home.
She looks to be a cute little small terrier mix. We estimate she is about 10 weeks old, and she’s 6lbs, so she will probably stay under 20lbs. She’s friendly with other dogs, cats, and is spunky and playful!
She will be available for adoption after we let her settle in and get to know her a little. Please reach out if you are interested in learning more about her!

PLMR update: “What we have been doing lately…”

We are so grateful to the Genet Manager Jay Romick, and his team of leaders at all the local Theresa's Country Feed & Pet Stores. They regularly donate food and supplies to us, and we are able to share among the desperate Bakersfield community. 
Our friend Regina Skwaruzynska volunteers for LIFE Animal Rescue in Agoura, and they invited me to visit their pristine facility, and pick up crates they had in abundance.
The Bakersfield City Shelter, under Joshua Proctor direction, puts together a large shipment of wonderful dogs to go to Alaska, Washington, other states where they don’t have the overpopulation problem- these places actually WANT DOGS TO ADOPT!!!!
Joshua and his staff make this happen a few times a year, and they have had to beg for crate donations in the past. Without enough crates, the transport can’t happen.
Through collaboration with LIFE Animal Rescue we have now solved the crate problem!
LIFE Animal Rescue flies dogs here from the meat industry (inhumane conditions) in South Korea. They then adopt out these dogs to carefully screened situations. They use the crate 1 time- for each dog’s 21 hour flight. They have tons of almost brand new crates to share.
I am happy to facilitate this transfer of needed food and crates to Bakersfield. (Partly why I have a truck!) Today I made the 240 mile round trip to drop off supplies, which costs $100 in fuel.
When you donate to PLMR you are not only helping us feed, raise, vaccinate, get vet care, train and home our moms and pups, but you are also helping us get help to hundreds of needy dogs!! This is not the cute, warm and fuzzy side of rescue, but it is critically important!
While we have had to slow our own rescuing of pregnant mom dogs for awhile (we have 5 yet to find homes for), we are still active everyday trying to make a real difference for the overwhelming number of unwanted, unloved, and unsafe dogs in our communities.
So thank you for every dollar! You guys are helping make this happen!

These kind people captured a loose dog and brought her to the Bakersfield City Shelter, which is so much better than ignoring her and having her hit by a car.
She is very sweet, calm and people-oriented. She passed her dog interaction and food guarding tests as “neutral”. No issues noted.
She’s a red husky, about 4 years old.
She will be euthanized within the week as that is the desperate overcrowding situation they face out there.
We can’t take her- we do not have the space for her. We are heartbroken when we see all the good dogs we can’t save…

Leah Spafford, one of our adopters, was so generous to donate a brand new dog bed to our rescue. It is big dog size, and our rescue dog moms each have a bed, so I asked this litter (big dogs) if any of our rescue pups needed a bed…
Well, the pup gets the couch and the toddler gets the dog bed, apparently- at least until toddler bedtime!!!
This little precious child calls it his “little couch”, and we love that!!!

Even though we’re completely full at puppy, love maternity rescue and can’t take any in ourselves. Sometimes you say yes, to being part of community that saves a little lives.💕. While in all day class you can still get things accomplished on breaks if you part of a team. I was able to commit to helping pull these guys and take them overnight so that they could get to the right people.❤️ thanks for everybody involved in making this happen.

Ever wonder about the guardian dog mom that was found starving in an orchard and gave birth to 13 puppies?

All of her puppies found their perfect forever homes and “Little” took on the role of protecting the puppy hacienda (where Puppy Love Maternity Rescue is located) from predators.
She watches over all the rescued dogs and puppies, takes walks with horses that are in training, and takes care of the baby horses as they play.
She is priceless and earned herself the role of puppy hacienda mascot❤️.
She shows new people how sweet rescued dogs can be.

Thank you everyone who made this rescue possible!!! It took a village of people supplying goats milk, puppy milk replacer, and tons and tons of puppy food to help Little and her babies survive 💕!

“Annie has become a certified service dog. She is unbelievably smart and an easy learner. She'll be taking classes to be fully trained next month. At this time anytime my diabetes act up Annie gets in my face. She knows about 10 minutes before I do. We are blessed to have her.”
This is from Mary and Keith- a lovely couple who adopted one of our orphan “Elf” litter.
We are so proud to share her accomplishments, and to recognize “Annie” for uncommon excellence at detecting her mom Mary’s blood sugar irregularities! Some dogs can be trained to do this- Annie does it naturally. Even Mary’s doctor has admired how Annie can do this so accurately and so young!
