On 11/20/2025, it marked Sally's one year of being adopted as one of our longest residents here at the Nancy J. Bura Animal Care Center. Sally was at the shelter for over 800 days and finally found the family right for her that treats he like royalty.

As you can tell, Sally is spoiled and even lets her humans dress her up for this special celebration. Her owners report that she is doing amazing and gets a spa day every two weeks with the groomer. Soon her family will be making their first road trip with Sally to a destination about 4,000 miles away. Her first vacation! We are all so excited to see her enjoying her new life.

We are all so happy to report that happy endings do exist! We wish Sally and her loving family the best and can't wait for another update!

The shelter has quite a few cats in need of homes they can call their own and settle in a comfy bed for the holidays! 🐾

Tierra, is a female orange and white cat, who was a return adoption. Tierra first adopted from the shelter last year was returned due to being a bit more dominant in the home with the other cats. Tierra had to be shaved due to some matting that may have caused her "attitude" in the home. Tierra is a fantastic cat who is trying to find her next and furever home. 🐈

Georgie, a senior Siamese, at the age of 10 was turned in by her owner. It was stated that Georgie had issues using her litter box but has never shown an issue in the shelter and uses her box regularly. Being a senior girl she did recently had to have most of her teeth removed. Georgie is hoping to find a home for the holiday season. 🐾

Slinky, a female tabby who is estimated to be a relatively young cat came in trapped. Slinky was very sweet and ended up in foster as she came in pregnant. Slinky had her children and now is looking for her next adventure! Slinky is a shy and more reserved cat who would do best in a slow moving home with no children. 🏡

Gretchen is a large female cat who came in due to a family emergency. Gretchen's owner had to go into the hospital and there was no one for Gretchen. Gretchen recently had to be shaved as she was matted but normally has long hair and is still trying to warm up. Gretchen would love to find a home she can snuggle on a bed or couch all day. 🛋️

To meet all the cats available for adoption we suggest you stop by! We have an amazing group of cat volunteers who can assist in finding the right cat for you. 🐈‍⬛

Hage just hit over 300 days and his only wish is to have a home to call his for Christmas. If anyone is willing to open their home to a new dog whether that is for an adoption or a sleep over for the holidays, Hage would be forever grateful. 🐕

Hage is an energetic boy who needs a stern and experienced owner with no other animals. If that could be you, please consider stopping by the shelter and meet Hage. Take him for a walk, play some ball in our play yards, or just give him some extra attention. He deserves it! 🐾

He could benefit from the program, where you take him out for a few hours to adventure with no other animals. ⛰️

Happy Tails for Casper, who was adopted after 3 months at the shelter and learning to trust people again. This poor guy came in terrified and shut down, just longing to be loved. In Casper's best interest his new family gave him everything ever needed.

Casper gave the good ole Paw of Approval and found his way into a house he could call a home! We are very grateful for the family who took Casper on as he needed a lot of training and has made so much effort already! We want to wish Casper and his family all the snuggles, adventures, and love. Thank you for adopting this sweet boy.

🍗🐕 Keep pets safe this Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and while our dogs may be tempted by all the delicious smells, not every holiday food is safe for them. The American Kennel Club has put together a helpful guide on which Thanksgiving foods are safe to share with dogs, and which should be avoided.

Safe options (in small portions and without extra seasonings):
• Sweet potatoes cooked plain (no sugar or marshmallows).
• Fresh apple slices (no seeds).
• Plain turkey meat without skin, bones, or seasoning.
• Green beans or peas without butter, salt, or sauces.
• Plain pumpkin (not pumpkin pie mix).

Foods to avoid:
• Turkey skin and bones (can cause digestive issues or pose choking hazards).
• Stuffing, casseroles, rich sides, butter-heavy dishes, and desserts.
• Chocolate, grapes/raisins, onions, garlic, and any heavily spiced or fatty foods.
• Uncooked dough or alcohol.
• Access to trash or leftover scraps.

Quick safety tip:
Prepare a small “safe plate” for your dog with approved foods so they feel included without the risk. And remind guests not to slip table scraps to pets without checking first.

Remember, share the holiday joy, not the hazards!

Protecting Puppies: The 4P Program🐾

The Nancy J. Brua Animal Care Center is dedicated to the health and well-being of our community's puppies through our 4P program, also known as the Puppy Parvo Prevention Program. Parvo is a highly contagious and a potentially fata viral infection that primarily affects dogs, especially puppies.

What is Parvovirus?
Parvo causes severe symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, loss of appetite, fever, and abdominal pain. Puppies are particularly vulnerable because their immune systems are not fully developed. The virus is often contracted through contact with contaminated environments, especially before a puppy has completed it's vaccination series.

How the 4P Program Helps:
To combat the spread of the dangerous disease, the Nancy J. Brua Animal Care Center offers free Parvo vaccinations to puppies nine months or younger. This program aims to create a protective barrier, reducing the incidence of Parvo in our area and ensuring more puppies live healthy lives.

Why vaccination is crucial:
Vaccination is the most effective way to protect your puppy from Parvo. By vaccinating your puppy, you are not only safeguarding their health but also contributing to the overall health of the dog population in our community.

Take advantage of this valuable resource by stopping by the shelter during business hours and advise staff you are there for the 4P program. Let's keep our puppies happy and healthy!
