💛 Some stories stay with you forever, and Lacy’s is one of them. 💛

When Lacy came to us through Dogs Deserve Better Blue Ridge, she had been living with a severely broken jaw for far too long. She needed urgent surgical care, and we knew she deserved every chance at a better life.

We were able to get Lacy in for a consult with our board-certified veterinary dentist,
Dr. Babbitt and his resident, Dr. Patel, at our Short Pump location. After a thorough evaluation, they determined that surgery was indeed a viable option for her!

We had a sudden opening in our dentistry schedule, and we were able to move quickly to get Lacy in for her procedure.

Her surgery was complex, but thanks to the dedication of our team, Lacy’s procedure was a success. Watching her begin to heal, free from the pain she had endured for so long, was incredibly rewarding.

But what truly makes this story special is the community that came together for her. An anonymous donor covered the majority of her surgical costs, and so many others contributed to ensure she received the care she needed.

After surgery, Lacy recovered in the loving hands of a medical foster, a retired veterinary technician who provided exceptional care during her healing journey.

And now, the ending we all hoped for… 💛🐾

Lacy’s foster family
officially adopted her.

Knowing she would always be a special needs dog, they still opened their heart and home to her without hesitation. Seeing Lacy go from pain and uncertainty to comfort, healing, and unconditional love is exactly why we do what we do.

This photo was just sent to us by Lacy’s new owner. She’s enjoying a pup cup first thing in the morning and soaking up the sweet life she always deserved.

Stories like hers remind us that sometimes everything truly does fall into place. 💛

🐾 Meet Mac 🐾

At 15 years old, Mac the Beagle was brought in by his loving owners to the Dentistry Department at Short Pump VVC for a dental procedure. Our team discovered severe stage IV periodontal disease affecting nearly every remaining tooth in his mouth.

Under the care of board-certified veterinary dentist Dr. Sam Babbitt and the dedicated dentistry team at VVC, Mac underwent advanced oral surgery, including full-mouth extractions, to help improve his comfort and quality of life.

Because Mac also has underlying heart disease, anesthesia required extra monitoring and specialized care. Our skilled anesthesia technicians did an incredible job keeping him safe and comfortable throughout his procedure. 💙

A special shoutout to Taylor, one of our amazing veterinary assistants in the dentistry department, whose compassion, attention to detail, and dedication helped make Mac’s procedure and recovery as smooth as possible.

Cases like Mac’s are a reminder that dental disease is more than bad breath; it can cause significant pain and greatly impact a pet’s overall health and comfort. We’re proud to offer advanced dental and oral surgery care for pets who need it most. 🦷🐶

🐾 A Happy Ending for One Sweet Lab 🐾

When this handsome 6-year-old chocolate Lab stopped eating, started vomiting, and wasn’t acting like himself, his family knew something was wrong. What initially seemed unclear quickly turned into a very serious situation requiring emergency surgery for a colonic torsion.
Cases like this can be especially challenging because not every patient reads the textbook. Despite still wagging his tail and trying to stay cheerful, additional diagnostics confirmed the original concern, and our team at the Short Pump location of Virginia Veterinary Centers quickly moved forward with surgery to correct the torsion and help prevent future complications by tacking both the colon and stomach.

Thanks to quick action from his family, persistence from the veterinary teams involved, and lifesaving surgery, he is now back home and doing what Labs do best, enjoying meals and acting like nothing ever happened. 💙
His mom shared:
“He's now back to his old self like nothing happened, which would not have been the case without this lifesaving surgery.”

We are so thankful to have been part of his care journey and so happy to see him recovering so well. Stories like his are an important reminder that if your pet seems “off,” even subtly, it’s always worth getting them checked out.
Please join us in wishing this sweet boy continued healing and many more happy years ahead!
