🚨 Travel Alert for Pet Owners! 🚨

You may have seen recent news about New World Screwworm detections in Texas and New Mexico. While there have been no cases detected in Idaho, state officials have implemented additional travel requirements for animals entering Idaho from affected areas.

What is New World Screwworm? 🪰

Despite the name, it is not actually a worm. It is the larval stage of a fly that can infest wounds and feed on living tissue. It can affect dogs, cats, livestock, wildlife, birds, and even people in rare cases.

Signs to watch for include:
🔴 Wounds that won’t heal
🔴 Increased swelling or drainage from a wound
🔴 Visible maggots in a wound
🔴 Foul odor
🔴 Excessive licking, scratching, or discomfort
🔴 Sudden lethargy or decreased appetite

✈️ Traveling with your pet to or from Texas or New Mexico?

Additional health certificate requirements may apply for animals entering Idaho from affected areas. If you have upcoming travel plans, we recommend contacting us before your trip so we can help ensure you have the proper paperwork and your pet is travel-ready.

The risk to Idaho pets remains very low, but early detection and prevention are important to keep this parasite from spreading.

As always, if your pet has an open wound, a wound that is not healing normally, or you notice anything unusual, give us a call. We’re happy to help! ❤️🐾

We all want our homes to smell nice and clean; however, as pet owners, we have to be extra careful that whatever we are using isn’t harmful to our fur babies. Incense is dangerous to cats as their sense of smell is 14 times stronger than that of humans and the smell can be too intense for them to handle. It also produces smoke, which can be bad for their respiratory system and increase the risk of your cat developing asthma. Opt for cat-friendly methods of keeping your house smelling fresh and clean by dusting frequently, using baking soda to absorb odors, having fragrant plants such as rosemary or sage, or simmering a pot of water with cinnamon sticks, apples, or vanilla. Stay current with your cats' healthcare needs and schedule their appointment by calling (208) 357-5100.

To prevent your pup from contracting parvo, it is essential to get them vaccinated. A puppy’s first set of vaccinations happen at 6 weeks old with another two at 9 and 12 weeks. When your dog is brought into our clinic, they will be assessed by us and we will advise you on all follow-up dates. Always look for clinical signs of parvo in your dog, and if you notice symptoms, contact us at (208) 357-5100 to book an appointment for diagnosis. Don’t leave it until its too late!
