Another day at the office. This time all MSR horses! Spooky Blaze (paint), Dusty (palamino), and Sox (bay). Need a friend to help pack out? I could be that friend. Cheers.

Good ground manners make everyone's job easier! 🐴

We caught up with our farrier to talk about why preparing your horse for routine hoof care matters. In the wise words of brigham west ( ferrier) "If you can train your horse for the farrier, then he can actually do his job instead of doing a trainer's job."

A little training goes a long way! And stick around for the ending. 🤣

Taking a break from the Western world for a minute this Sunday. 🎸
My dad was a hair-band, heavy-metal kind of guy, and growing up, he introduced me to a band called Stryper. 🤘💛
Their name comes from Isaiah 53:5, and while a lot of people might remember them for the yellow and black stripes and the heavy sound, their music carried a message, too.
Lately, one of their songs that's been sticking with me is Always There for You.
Funny how certain songs can take you back, remind you of where you came from, and mean something a little different to you as you get older.
So we're stepping outside the Western world for a minute this Sunday and turning up a little old-school metal!!!
Hope everyone has a blessed Sunday!
🎸🤘✝️

The round pen was used for something else today. The imagination of a child is a remarkable thing.

Any local hat makers? Felt or straw?

This horse came to us recently with a bad habit of pulling back. You probably have seen him in a previous video. If you’ve ever dealt with a horse that pulls, you know how dangerous it can be. As soon as they feel pressure on the halter when tied, they panic. Instead of just taking one simple step forward to get relief, they dig their heels in, fight the rope, and pull back with everything they’ve got.
In my readings this week in Isaiah, and it got me thinking about how much we act like a tied-up horse sometimes. (hang on)
The Lord asks His prophets to warn us when we’re heading down the wrong path and need to change our ways. But human nature is stubborn. When we feel the "pressure" of being corrected or warned, our first instinct is usually to get defensive, dig our heels in, and pull away from God.
Isaiah 30:15 hits the nail on the head: "In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength: and ye would not."
Just like this horse had to learn to yield to pressure so he could stand quiet in the trees and be a solid, willing partner on the pack trail, we have to learn to yield to the Lord. When we stop fighting the rope and just step forward in faith, that’s where we find our rest.
Happy Sunday from Maple Springs Ranch!

Long before we were fine-tuning arena maneuvers, horses were the engine that pulled implements just like this one across the fields. Looking at this rusty piece of history against tonight’s sky is a great reminder of the deep roots of our partnership with horses. Honoring the past while training for the future.
