They’ve waited over 90 days.💔

While others found homes, they stayed.
Waiting. Watching. Hoping.

This month, during Clear the Shelters, we’re waiving all adoption fees because these dogs have waited long enough.

💙 Meet our longest residents:

🐾 Coco - 1-year-old female Retriever Mix. She's petite and playful, needs slow introductions, and does well with other dogs.
🐾 Colby-Jack - 2.5-year-old male Retriever/Cattle Dog Mix. He's sweet, energetic, and does well with other dogs!
🐾 Jackson - 2.5-year-old male Terrier Mix. He's the total package: cuddly, playful, and always up for a walk or a car ride.
🐾 Bella - 3-year-old female Retriever Mix. She's very sweet and playful, loves to play with a squeaky ball, and plays well with other dogs.

These are the ones who are always overlooked. But they have the biggest hearts, and they’re still waiting for someone to choose them.

Come meet them. Sit with them. See what we see. Maybe it’s you they’ve been waiting for.

Good news for animals in Cleveland County! Our first responders can now support pets and animals with life-saving oxygen in emergency situations. 🎉

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: August 4, 2025
Cleveland County Enhances Emergency Response with Pet Oxygen Mask Kits

SHELBY, N.C.- The Cleveland County Board of Commissioners is proud to reaffirm its commitment to the health, safety, and well-being of all members of our community, both human and animal.

In a continued effort to support emergency preparedness and compassionate care, Cleveland County is pleased to announce the acquisition and distribution of WAG’N O2 FUR LIFE® Pet Oxygen Mask Kits. These kits are designed to assist first responders in providing life-saving oxygen to animals in distress.

To ensure rapid deployment and maximum coverage, the County will distribute two kits to each Volunteer Fire Department and one kit to every ambulance.

The reusable Pet Oxygen Mask Kits can be used to:

• Administer oxygen to pets suffering from smoke or carbon monoxide inhalation
• Stabilize animals injured in accidents or emergency situations
• Support working dogs with heat exhaustion or respiratory distress
• Provide pre-transport oxygen therapy before veterinary care
• Fit a range of animal sizes with interchangeable mask options
• Easily connect to standard emergency oxygen equipment
• Improve survival rates and foster community trust during animal rescues

Cleveland County remains committed to equipping our first responders with the tools they need to save lives. These kits represent an important step in supporting the vital bond between people and their pets, especially in moments of crisis.
