Today we are saying THANK YOU to Melanie, CSR extraordinaire, who is embarking on her next chapter - retirement! Undoubtedly if you’ve visited us in the past few years you’ve been greeted by her smile and kind demeanor. She has helped clients with fun new pet visits as well as stressful visits when a pet wasn’t feeling well, treating our clients and patients with compassion. We will miss her at SVH but are so excited for her adventures to come. Please join us in thanking Melanie and give her a round of applause…with hands and paws!

Did you know the last Friday in April is Hairball Awareness Day?

Hairballs are a gross, hairy mess and they aren’t pleasant for our cats either! As cats shed their excess winter fur to prepare for warmer weather, you may notice hairballs more frequently. National Hairball Awareness Day aims to remind cat owners to spend a little extra time brushing your cat at the change of seasons. You can also consider other options like hairball-preventing treats to make your cat feel more comfortable.

This week is National Veterinary CSR Week!

When you call SVH or when you come in for your appointment our Veterinary CSRs are the first people you’ll speak with. They advocate for our clients and patients each day, helping triage symptoms, providing a listening ear and finding appointment times that work best for you, all delivered with care and compassion. We are so proud of our Front Desk team and are grateful for the contributions they make to SVH every single day! Please give them a shout out for all they do!

This week is Poison Prevention Week, a week to increase awareness about common household hazards for our four-legged family members.

We often forget that there are dangers lurking around our own homes! Check your home for these poisons, and make sure they’re out of your pets’ reach.

1. Some pets will eat just about anything…including dirt. But fertilizer isn’t just dirt, and the chemicals in it can harm your pets.

2. The most common toxic plants are azaleas, lilies, daffodils, and tulips. Whenever you get a new plant, do some research to see if it could make your pet sick and keep it out of harm’s way if necessary.

3. It is surprisingly common for pets to be poisoned by ingesting mouse or rat poison. While it may make your rodent problem harder to manage, do not leave any poisons low enough for pets to reach.

4. Be careful not to spill any detergents during spring cleaning. Cats tend to have more serious reactions to these, and they’re usually exposed by walking through the substance and licking their paws later.

5. Pets may think pills are treats, and many human medications, from over-the-counter cold medicines to prescription SSRIs, are deathly toxic to animals.
