Training Tip Tuesday (Wednesday)
As our seasons change and training schedules can look differently depending on the time of year we take our dogs fitness and health seriously.
We don’t want our dogs to pack on pounds in the months we aren’t as active so that responsibility relies on us as owners to adjust what they are taking in for calories,
From both treats and their daily meals. When you look at your food bag there is a suggested feeding per day. Just like humans dogs can have all different metabolisms, and activity levels. That’s what the bag is, a suggestion. We have to look at what our dogs look like and make adjustments.
Throughout the year my own dogs can fluctuate from getting 1-6 cups a day of kibble for the same dog depending on the time of year. I make sure to look at what their body looks like and change the amount according to the dog, not my bag.
Days they were more active and seem a little “thinner” they get more. Days we are couch potato’s they get less. It’s a balancing act for sure but important to understand and be able to keep our dogs around as long as they can be.
