Some of our 4-H members competed at the District horse show over the weekend.
We want to congratulate Aspen for making it to states in 2 of her jumping classes on Maverick! They had some lovely courses, Maverick went from being an eventing horse one day and a Hunter horse the next.
Eva and Star had a fantastic schooling in the morning; however, things took a turn for the worst and when it was actually time to show, Star was a nightmare and was not having it. Eva did a great job sticking it out and not giving up and I am SO Proud of her! She rode through her tantrum and stuck with her like I knew she could. This was before the class even started as we waited 10 mins for the last pony to join the class!… once the class actually starting it was super they had some lovely transitions and looked pretty good. Then after Star realized she couldn’t get Eva off by throwing a tantrum… she found another way to get Eva off while in the line up,… yes she laid down (3 times)!🤦🏼♀️ At that point judges and some others were thinking she was colicing which I can see where they were coming from, but knowing the pony I knew it was behavior. Of course we gave her the benefit of a doubt and excused Eva from the lineup. We pulled her tack off, hosed her down and took her back to the trailer… back at the trailer she was fine her TPR was normal, she was eating hay, drinking and pooping as usual. So strange as she has never done this before and has always been good at shows and at home. I’m curious to see how the next show goes with her and pray it was just her having a bad day.
Cooper and Taz did good in all their classes, unfortunately they were just very big classes and some pretty competitive minis. They tried their best and I’m happy to see Taz getting better and better driving. They had a super nice jumping course even tho they pulled a rail. Luckily they beat the rain on Sunday and got all their classes in before the down pour.
Lastly, Autumn and Libertee had a good time showing. Poor girl always gets stuck riding in the downpour, but she never gives up and sticks it out and has learned to always bring an extra set of clothes😂. They had a pretty competitive showmanship class, and they competed in the gaming classes against horses. Poor Libertee didn’t stand a chance against some of those gaming horses but he tried his heart out and listened to Autumn to get the pattern done and correct. Sometimes slow and steady wins the race they ended up getting 6th in pole bending! The end of the day we were all completely soaked and cold.
We also want to give Grace a little shout out she also qualified for districts; however, she had to get surgery and wasn’t able to complete this year. We definitely missed her and hope she can join us next year!
