🚨 CALLING SOS FOR SWEETS 🚨

Sweets is living at our shelter, and she needs OUT ASAP.

And the hardest part? None of this is her fault.

Sweets is only 2 years old. When her family could no longer keep their dogs, she ended up in a southern Illinois shelter. She was simply caught in a heartbreaking situation she had absolutely no control over.

And somehow, through it all, Sweets has remained the sweetest girl.

She is gentle, calm, loving, and well-mannered. She’s the kind of dog who quietly steals your heart and makes you wonder how she ended up waiting in a shelter in the first place.

What Sweets needs is simple:

🏡 A home with NO other dogs
🌳 A secure 6-foot privacy fence
🛋️ A cozy couch to call her own
❤️ A person who will give her the forever she deserves

That’s it.

She doesn’t need a perfect home. She just needs HER home.

Sweets has already lost the family she knew. Please don’t let her lose more time waiting in a shelter.

Bruno’s story is one that will pull at your heartstrings.

Bruno came from a “rescue” where dogs were neglected of the most basic things — food, socialization, comfort, and simply the chance to live a normal life. They spent their days in cages, with little to no care or attention.

Thankfully, our friends at Animal Rescue Corps stepped in and removed the dogs from this failed rescue. And then Bruno came into our care.

Since arriving, Bruno has been learning what it means to be loved and cared for.

He came to us not potty trained — and now he is completely potty trained.
He was only 50 pounds and severely underweight. Today, he’s a healthy 70 pounds and finally at the weight he should be.

He’s still learning that the world isn’t a scary place. Loud noises can frighten him, but little by little, he’s getting more comfortable and gaining confidence.

Bruno is dog social, but we believe his forever home would be best as an only dog — somewhere calm, patient, welcoming, and willing to let him continue learning at his own pace.

He has already come SO far.

And yet… Bruno isn’t getting anything. No applications. No one asking about him. 💔

He has spent enough of his life being overlooked. He deserves a family who will show him that all of the hard days are behind him.

These two handsome little lovebirds are officially ready to leave the nest and find families of their very own!

Meet the boys of the Bird Litter: Condor and Macaw! These adorable 8-week-old puppies are expected to grow to around 40–50 pounds and are ready to spread their wings into loving forever homes.

Condor and Macaw are both sweet, playful, and full of puppy potential. They’re looking for families ready to help them grow, learn, explore, and become the best boys they can be.

🐾 Volunteer Spotlight: Jason S. 🐾

For nearly 10 years, Jason has helped our rescue dogs get the walks, love, and attention they need while they wait for forever homes. Here’s why he keeps showing up:

"I love meeting and interacting with the new dogs coming through. I recently met both Sweets and Lissy, and they both found a soft spot in my heart. Hanging out with them the other night made my day. For anyone looking to get their dog fix and meet new dogs, I recommend volunteering to walk dogs like them and spend time with them. Maybe one or two of them will make your day too!"

💚 Volunteering changes their day—and yours. If you can spare a few hours, our dogs need you. Volunteer with us to help with:

🐕 Dog walking
🐾 Supervising playgroups
🚗 Transporting our dogs to vet appointments
🫶🏽 Giving our dogs extra love and attention

We have two daily volunteer shifts available:

⏰ 8:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
⏰ 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

🥞SHORT STACK ALERT!🥞

At just 1.5 years old, Pancake is proof that the best things really do come in small stacks.

His specialties include:

🥞 Flipping adorable — seriously, it should be illegal.
🍯 Sweet as syrup — affectionate, loving, and ready for his people.
🧈 A little buttery — because he melts right into the couch after a walk.
🐾 Stacks well with other dogs — Pancake is dog-friendly and would love a canine sibling!
💦 Likes his pancakes with a side of… hose water? — This boy LOVES playing with the garden hose.

Pancake has a moderate energy level, so he’s basically the perfect recipe: a little adventure, a little playtime, a LOT of cuddling, and a generous serving of naps

He’s sweet, playful, curious, affectionate, crate-trained, potty-trained, and ready to find the humans who will love him from the first bite.

He does best with older kids 10+ who understand that sometimes even the sweetest pancake needs a little space. He may complain a bit when first settling into his crate, but consistency and patience will help him feel right at home.

The only thing missing from Pancake’s life is YOU.

Today we celebrate the dogs who make our lives happier, sillier, messier, and SO much more meaningful.

But here at Fetching Tails Foundation, National Dog Day is about more than celebrating the dogs who already have loving homes. It’s also about remembering the dogs who are still waiting.

The ones hoping someone will choose them.
The ones learning what love feels like for the first time.
The ones who have been overlooked, abandoned, or forgotten.
The ones patiently waiting for their forever.

Today, celebrate your dog a little extra. Give them the belly rub, the extra treat, the long walk, and the millionth “Who’s a good dog?”
