Late afternoon yesterday, we drove out to the country to give a freedom ride to nine dogs who had been living on chains. Ages 1 to 3 years, all were very nervous, and none made a sound on the ride back to our shelter. All but two of these dogs are heartworm positive, they were all covered in fleas, they all had wormy bellies, several have severe skin issues, some are underweight, and none of them have ever seen a vet. Only the big bulldog would take a treat from us when doing meds, the rest were too timid. We had to separate several of the males for being ugly to each other, which we hope will ease as we start down the road to getting everyone altered (the three females are going in first).
This was a completely preventable situation. Starting with spaying and neutering, but also not having more pets than you have resources and means for them. Animals are not meant to be collected.
We need donations and fosters. We wiped out our dewormer, flea meds, shots, and heartworm tests, so now having to reorder everything sooner than our usual flow, plus additional dog food for the extra mouths at one time.
Please consider a $5 donation towards their care as it's going to be a lot for them. Donate here, venmo coastalpetrescue , cashapp $coastalpetrescue , paypal [email protected] , or old fashioned checks to 7430 Thomas Ave, Savannah, GA 31406.
(If interested in fostering, the link will be in the comments as FB doesn't like it when we put it in our main post.)
