You want to know why rescues ask so many questions at adoption? This is why. Zep was adopted from us in May 2024. On the left is her out on a field trip with a volunteer before adoption, on the right was how she was returned to us last night because they were moving. Despite the neglect, she was all tail wags for attention. We want to trust people, we really do, but we get to see so many heartbreaking things happen to our rescued pets even when we do everything we can to change their lives.

Zep is at the vet now. Please consider a $5 donation towards her care and diet to get her back to her fabulous self.

For those who have inquired, we are not a law enforcement agency, so we cannot bring any charges ourselves.

Update 6 pm: There are obviously a number of concerns. Immediately, her bloodwork was unremarkable, which is good. There is concern about her vision and possible neurology issues. For now, she will be hospitalized at Animal Hospital at Rice Hope for a few days with IV fluids and care.

Last month, we took in 14 dogs (which became 17 after one gave birth) from a home with over 40 (thank you to Two Black Dogs Foundation and Fixing the Boro who also took some of the dogs). While several have required extensive medical care, and others are still working on socializing, we do have a few now available for adoption.

Adopters, you need to understand that these dogs are not going to come into your home and be 100% a Hallmark story. They need time and patience. Some are going to do better in homes with other dogs to build confidence and learn routines, others have too much mental scarring for resource competition that they need to be the only dog, and most are not going to be ok around small children. We have updated their profiles accordingly.

With that, we would love your help to find homes for Susie, Lantana, Camellia, Hydrangea, Zinnia, and Aster. If none of these are a fit for your family, we have 48 other dogs and cats also looking for someone to love: https://coastalpetrescue.org/adopt/

Please help us find foster homes! (Or adopters!)

These are the dogs at our shelter, Camp Pawsawhile, currently needing fosters (or adopters!). Some have been with us over a year at this point. Please consider opening up your home as they have a greater chance of adoption once they are in homes with fosters who will give them time and help them learn to be part of a family. Coastal Pet Rescue will provide all supplies needed to foster.

We are expecting some inclement weather this weekend, which we think would be the perfect time to give our 35 shelter residents a little vacation. We're looking to send our pets to foster homes tonight and tomorrow so they can miss any of the wind and rain due our way. We'll provided you all the supplies you need for your sleepover, and we'll be ready to accept them back on Monday.

Coastal Pet Rescue takes multiple dogs from hoarding case September 29, 2026

Early this morning, our team headed out to a home with 45 dogs needing to be removed after numerous issues with county enforcement. Most were not social, multiple attempted to bite out of fear, and sadly, one was already passing away when we arrived (we discovered from a relative that the pack had been regularly fighting for resources and multiple dogs have died as a result). They ranged in age from 12 weeks to 12 years, so many mixes of breeds, and probably similar branches of the family tree. This is a problem that was addressed more than once with this resident. Unfortunately, it took law enforcement and citations to yield a willingness to let go.

Tonight, 11 of these dogs have received medical care and baths for the first time and are safe in the care of our foster homes, vet, and shelter where they will no longer have to compete for survival. We still have five looking for foster homes, and once those are placed, we intend to return for more. These are NOT dogs that you can bring home and immediately introduce to your animals and small children. They can be handled without biting, just very scared (flight risks!) and will need a lot of time, work, love and PATIENCE. Foster application: https://bit.ly/cprdogfoster
