We’d love for our clients to take a moment and join us in saying ✨ THANK YOU ✨ to our wonderful receptionists, Susie and Ashley here at Sarasota Equine!

They are the ones answering your calls, scheduling your appointments and helping make each experience as stress-free as possible.

⚠️ Spring Pasture Alert ⚠️

With Spring/Summer right around the corner, it's time to start watching for that lush grass coming in out in our pastures. Lush grass can be risky for some horses, especially those prone to laminitis episodes.

Some tips to help reduce the risk:

- Introduce grassy pastures slowly. This allows for your horse to adjust properly and avoid colic and laminitis bouts. Start small and increase gradually.

- Using a grazing muzzle for horses with a higher risk is a good idea as well. This will help limit their intake.

- Avoid grazing during the late evenings as the grass contains more sugars than earlier in the day.

- Monitor your horses body condition, if you seem to notice a sudden increase in weight, lameness or heat in the hooves, please contact us.

🚨🐴 Do You Have an Emergency Plan? 🐴🚨

One of the most important (but often overlooked) parts of horse ownership is having a way to transport your horse in an emergency. Whether it’s a colic that needs immediate veterinary care, a sudden injury, a barn fire, or even dangerous weather moving in, being able to move your horse quickly can save their life.

✅ If you own a trailer, make sure it’s safe, road-ready, and that your horse loads well.

✅ If you don’t have one, build a plan NOW! Talk to trusted friends, neighbors, or local horse groups and find someone willing to haul for you in an emergency. Save their number in your phone and keep it somewhere easy to grab.

✅ Practice loading so your horse isn’t stressed when time is critical.

Emergencies don’t wait, and the last thing you want is to be scrambling when every minute counts. Having a trailer—or a reliable contact who can haul for you—is just as essential as a good vet, proper feed, and safe fencing.

👉 Take a few minutes today to check your plan. Your horse’s life could depend on it.

❄️ Cold Snap Reminder ❄️

With the upcoming cold weather here in the sunshine state, now is a great time to be proactive about colic prevention. As temperatures drop, many horses drink less water, which can increase the risk of impaction colic.

➡️ Consider starting electrolytes to encourage more drinking!

➡️ Add warm mashes to help boost hydration and keep things moving!

➡️Providing constant forage during the cold to mimic grazing will help prevent any stomach acid build up!

These small changes now can make a big difference during the cold snap. Let’s keep our horses comfortable, hydrated, and healthy this winter! 🐴💙
