🐶 **Public Service Announcement: Canine Distemper Has Been Detected in Local Foxes**
We want to make our community aware that there is currently a canine distemper outbreak affecting foxes in our area. While this disease is often associated with wildlife, it can also spread to unvaccinated dogs through direct contact or exposure to contaminated bodily fluids and environments.
Canine distemper is a serious, often fatal viral disease that can cause:
🐾 Fever and lethargy
🐾 Coughing and pneumonia
🐾 Vomiting and diarrhea
🐾 Neurologic signs such as tremors, seizures, or paralysis
The good news? **It is highly preventable through vaccination.**
We strongly encourage all dog owners to make sure their pets are up to date on their distemper vaccinations—especially puppies and dogs that spend time outdoors, visit parks, or may encounter wildlife.
To help protect your pets:
✔️ Keep vaccinations current.
✔️ Avoid contact with sick or wild animals, including foxes, raccoons, and skunks.
✔️ Supervise dogs outdoors and discourage them from investigating wildlife or carcasses.
✔️ Contact your veterinarian if your dog develops respiratory, gastrointestinal, or neurologic symptoms.
If you're unsure whether your dog's vaccines are up to date, we're happy to help review their records and discuss the best protection plan.
Together, we can help keep our pets and community safe. ❤️🐕
