Meet Jasper, Obsidian and Marble!

They just arrived back to the shelter after being in a foster home. Thanks to Abby for fostering this trio and giving them lots of love and attention. They are looking for wonderful loving families. Come meet them today!

Jasper (A326663)
Secretly a cuddle bug, jasper loves to chase his favorite toy ball until he gets tired and curls up in your lap. He is a professional biscuit maker and purrs up a storm.

Obsidian (A326664)
Sidi (for short) is a sweet and playful little girl. She begs for attention and food, and can be very loud about it. She loves string toys and cuddles with her siblings.

Marble (A326665)
Marble is shy but give him some time and some treats and he will come out of his shell. He loves to wrestle with his siblings and play with crinkle toys.

Happy 😻

Meet Scarlet! This 4-year-old brown tabby beauty has a history of being indoors with occasional outdoor access, although she preferred to be indoors with her people primarily. She had been the only pet in the home. Scarlet was reported to be friendly with adults in her previous home but would get spooked by rambunctious children. She has become a volunteer fav⭐️

Scarlets’ adoption fee is sponsored by the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation thanks to “Leave No One Behind fund” – designed to adopter’s eyes towards animals who have been in the Shelter’s care a little longer than average waiting for the right adopter.

Meet Benny, the 13-week-old pug mix puppy! Benny came to the Shelter via a good samaritan who almost saw him get hit by a car! Lucky for Benny, the good sam took him into safety and even brought him to the vet to get some basic vaccines prior to coming to the Shelter. Benny recently went on an overnight with a volunteer who reports: “Benny was a very sweet overnight guest. He is unsure about new things but gains confidence quickly. Very playful, goofy, loving, affectionate. Was fine being around my cat. They shared space several times. Really wants to play with the other dogs on property, but was responsive to their boundaries they set with him. Loves to fetch balls and plush toys. Gets the zoomies inside and outside. Rode well in the car. Did pretty well with potty habits especially considering he acted like he hadn’t been in a house before. He will need fine tuning once in a routine but responded really well to positive reinforcement in a short period of time.”

Benny will be at shelter this weekend. Come meet him and see if you are a match!

Meet Ryker, the short basset mix! This energizer bunny is looking for an active adopter to meet his match. He enjoys running around with other dogs during playgroup and may enjoy a canine companion in his next home after some “speed dating” at the Shelter prior to adoption. Ryker has successfully escaped his previous guardian’s yard when left outdoors unattended so his next family should plan for him to be safely indoors when left unattended and on a leash with his family when outdoors. Ryker’s previous guardian reported that he has shown prey drive towards rats in the previous home so a home with small animals and/or cats is not recommended. Ryker is 1 year 8 months old.

Adoption Update🐈‍⬛

A couple months ago our Animal Control team rescued this kitty after a shooting that had occurred at an encampment and became known as “crime scene” kitty. He came into our care and thankfully was not injured. One of the crime scene investigators from adopted the kitty once he became available for adoption. We received these photos and below update to share of Rio🐈‍⬛

“I’m so so so happy to share that I was able to claim crime scene kitty and he is totally rad. I named him Rio, since I found him near the river. He took almost no time at all to settle in with my family, including our two kids (ages 6 and 2) and our other cat, Crosby, who is just over a year old. I attached some pictures 😊🖤”

Thanks to volunteers Kirsty and Nathan for taking adoptable Mochi out on a hike and picnic today. Check out the photos and below report.

“Just wanted to send a little write-up about Mochi. We had a lovely time with her, she was wonderful on the harness, did great in the car, and absolutely adored rolling around in the grass. She even had a little nap while we had our picnic.“

If interested in meeting Mochi, read her bio on our website and come visit us on Saturday, 11/29 when we reopen to the public.

Adoption fee includes vaccinations, deworming, flea preventative, microchipping, licensing (dogs), and spay/neuter surgeries.

Meet our Pet of the Week - Flufferface🐈‍⬛

Cozy season is here, and it’s the perfect time to warm your home—and your lap—with a new furry friend! Flufferface and his three equally handsome brothers arrived at the shelter as tiny, sickly stray kittens in July. After treatment for colds and fleas, they spent several weeks in a wonderful foster home gaining strength. When they returned for boosters and neuter surgeries, we discovered they had ringworm—a harmless but contagious fungus—so back to foster they went for successful treatment. Now healthy, sweet, and a little bored, they’re ready for real homes. Flufferface is affectionate, gentle with children, good with cats and dogs, and a perfect litter-box user. The mostly-black brothers can be adopted separately or together, with adoption fees reduced thanks to the Bogey Fund.
