SUMMER WALKS 🦮: Before heading out with your pet, remember that Florida temperatures can make sidewalks and pavement dangerously hot. Even when the air temperature is just 85°F, your pet’s paw pads can be at risk of burns and injury.

The safest times for walks are during the cooler morning hours or later in the evening after the sun goes down. Don’t skip the walk—just plan it for a cooler part of the day!

If the pavement is too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their paws. 🐾

PROTECT YOUR PET: Be a responsible pet owner by vaccinating and microchipping your pet! Seminole County Animal Services is offering half price Rabies vaccines and microchipping at $5 each at our shelter on Saturday, June 27, from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. This is only open to Seminole County residents. Pre-registration, proof of residency, and photo ID is required.

MEET OSCAR💚: Oscar is a 5-year-old Cane Corso mix who has made an incredible turnaround since arriving at the shelter as a stray. He came in with significant skin issues and very little hair, but with steady care, patience, and plenty of love, he’s made great progress and continues to improve each day.

What stands out most about Oscar is his calm, gentle nature. He enjoys spending time with people, soaks up attention, and has shown he can do well with other dogs when introduced properly.

TOWELS NEEDED: Our towel supply is running low, and we could use your help! Seminole County Animal Services is accepting new and gently used towels—both regular bath towels and beach towels are welcome (please, no holes)—to help keep our shelter pets clean, comfortable, and cared for.

MEET KNOBE💛: If you stop by the shelter today, you’ll find Knobe waiting to greet visitors in our front lobby room. This handsome tan-and-white, 3-year-old Labrador Retriever mix was recently surrendered and is looking for a fresh start.

NATIONAL MICROCHIPPING MONTH: A microchip is one of the easiest and most effective ways to help reunite lost pets with their families. Unlike collars and tags, which can fall off or become damaged, a microchip provides permanent identification that can be scanned by shelters and veterinarians to quickly access your contact information. Just be sure to keep your registration details up to date.

Seminole County Animal Services offers microchipping during its monthly Protect Your Pet Clinics. The next clinic will be held on Saturday, June 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

PREPARED TO RESPOND: In partnership with the Florida State Animal Response Coalition (SARC), Florida State Agricultural Response Team (SART), and the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS), participants completed the Small Animal Disaster and Emergency Sheltering Awareness Level Course.
 
This grant-funded, FDME-certified training provided hands-on experience and valuable knowledge to help volunteers and emergency responders support animal shelter operations during disasters. Thanks to everyone who dedicated their time to learning how to protect and care for animals when they need it most.
 
Together, we’re building a more prepared and resilient community for both people and pets.

MEET JAXSON: Jaxson recently hit the trails at Big Tree Park for a Hound Around Town outing, and he was a natural explorer! 🐾

Jaxson loved stretching his legs, taking in the sights, and enjoying every minute of his day out. His volunteer says this 3-year-old Terrier mix was a lot of fun to spend time with and hopes this sweet, active pup finds the loving home he deserves soon.

He knows basic commands, enjoys the company of other dogs with proper introductions, and his easygoing personality could make him a great fit for a family with children.
