Mental Health Awareness Month is an important reminder that caring for others starts with caring for ourselves, too.

In emergency veterinary medicine, every shift brings urgent cases, emotional moments, and the responsibility of being there when pets and their families need help most. Behind every patient is a team of dedicated professionals showing compassion, focus, and resilience.

This month, we recognize the importance of supporting mental wellbeing within veterinary medicine and creating space for rest, connection, and support.

To every member of the veterinary team: thank you for the care you give every day.

Memorial Day weekend can bring extra risks for pets, from cookout foods to outdoor hazards and holiday travel.

A little extra awareness can go a long way in helping keep your pet safe and out of the ER.

Review the slides for common holiday emergencies and warning signs to watch for. Also reach out to your regular vet if you need sedatives to help with noise and fireworks!

We're here if you need us and will remain open this holiday!

Wrapping up on Veterinary Assistant Week we want to shine the spotlight on two of our amazing assistants- Crystal and Laura!

If you have ever come through our surgery service, you have probably met Crystal! She helps our surgeons run their appointments, and provides love to all our fuzzy friends making them feel comfortable during the first visit. When you don't see her wrangling the surgeons, she is in the back helping assist the team before, during, and after procedures helping make sure everyone wakes up comfortably.

While you may not see Laura face-to-face, rest assured she is making sure everything is running smoothly in the surgery service. From prepping patients, to sterilizing instruments, to running around fetching anything the surgeons may need during surgery- Laura does it all! Behind the scenes, Laura is the one making sure things get done.

Both Crystal and Laura won the 2026 Ethos Veterinary Champion Awards. Only four of these awards were given out on a national basis, and two of them went to assistants in our hospital!

Thank you Crystal, Laura, and all of our Veterinary Assistants! Your compassion, dedication, and commitment to growth exemplify the very best of the profession!

We had the best time at the San Marcos Spring Fling, rain and all!

Thank you to everyone who braved the weather to come out and say hi. We truly love getting out into our community, meeting new faces, and of course, all the wagging tails that stopped by our booth.

The highlight of the day was hearing from so many of you who shared stories about your pets and your experiences with us. Those moments mean everything to our team. We are so grateful to be part of your pets’ lives and your stories.

What an incredible night at our VSH-NC CE Dinner!

We had a packed house and an amazing turnout from the veterinary community. It is always so rewarding to bring everyone together, and even more meaningful when we get to give back through education and shared learning.

A huge thank you to Purina for sponsoring the evening and helping make this event possible. Your continued support allows us to create opportunities like this for our rveterinary community.
We were lucky to have two fantastic speakers. Marisa Ciccozzi, DVM, DACVIM (Cardiology), who gave an engaging and practical talk on managing heart failure in cats and dogs. She had the room fully locked in and sparked some great discussion.

We also heard from Avi Shaprut, DVM with Purina, who shared valuable insights on nutrition and its role in supporting patients with gastrointestinal issues.

Nights like this are exactly why we do what we do. Bringing people together, sharing knowledge, and strengthening our community.
