His name was Mocha, though he had only learned it two days earlier.
Mocha had been the last puppy left in the litter because everyone who came looking wanted something else: a fluffy Pom, a confident Frenchie, a dramatically long-haired Chi with apple-head proportions. Mocha, with his enormous ears that looked borrowed from a fruit bat and his serious, slightly worried expression, did not photograph like the internet wanted Chihuahuas to look. So he waited.
Until Tuesday.
Tuesday arrived wearing mismatched rain boots and carrying a paper bag that smelled of fried plantain. She was twenty-three, recently moved back home after university, and still figuring out what kind of life she wanted to build. When she saw Mocha sitting alone in the corner of the breeder’s living room, she didn’t say “Awww” or anything about bats. She just crouched down, held out one finger, and waited.

Hi! My name is Cyrus, but my friends call me Cy. I’m a 6-month-old Bichon weighing in at a mighty 9.8 pounds of fluffy goodness, and I’m currently on the lookout for my forever family. 🐾

I’ve only been in my foster home for a few days, but wow… the world is pretty amazing out here! I recently felt grass under my paws for the very first time, experienced rain while learning to potty outside, and even discovered cold Minnesota snow. My foster mom says this is what springtime potty training in MN looks like!😅 I’m doing pretty well with a regular potty schedule and have even started scratching at the patio door when I need to go out… although sometimes I just want to go run around the yard with my new buddies, Lucy & Kevin. It’s hard to resist a good backyard adventure!

I really love being close to my human. I like to keep an eye on her at all times, and I sleep much better when I’m snuggled up nearby with the other dogs. The crate isn’t really my favorite place yet, but I’m still learning.

Speaking of learning… I recently discovered that the dog in the windows & mirrors is actually me. I’m still working on not barking at him every time I see him… but progress takes time, right?

I eat well with the other dogs and just recently figured out what treats are all about. At first I wasn’t quite sure what to do with them, but now I’m catching on! I’ve also started playing and learning to fetch, and every once in a while, I get a fun little case of the zoomies!💫

Right now I live with three kiddos (the youngest is 7) and I seem to be comfortable with everyone. I follow the lead of the resident dogs, even though they’re a little bigger than me, and I really enjoy their company. But I think I could also be happy as your one and only pup too.🐾

Oh, and one more very important thing… I LOVE SNUGGLES. If you’re looking for a sweet little sidekick who’s learning about the world one paw step at a time, I might just be your guy.
