Come in, Over!

Getting to grips with island life is no easy task.

It will take time to build the raft they need, but it takes even longer if the castaways aren’t attuned to island life.
They will have to learn to live like the tribe if they are to work and live alongside them.

So this week, that’s what the castaways have been getting to grips with: getting in touch with the natural instincts that city living has removed the need for.

The lives of the dogs in the tribe are tailored perfectly to feed their natural instincts.

If they want stimulation, they don’t have to go in a scent space like the daycare dogs; the whole world is their scent space.

The sand beneath their feet is their snuffle mat; the trees around them are their obstacle course.
It’s now time for the daycare dogs to fully embrace that which they’ve left behind.

Tug often gets a bad rap, but as long as you build in structure, impulse control, and a solid "give" command, it’s a fantastic way to reward your dog without always relying on treats.

Challenge Accepted!

I believe the last time we checked in, the castaways had just met the island’s residents. Well, since then there have been some major developments.

It turns out that the dogs on the island make up a never-before-contacted tribe who have lived in perfect harmony with the island and their natural instincts for thousands of years.

The leader of the tribe agreed to help the castaways get back to where they belonged, to help them find their way home to Barksville, but said that it wouldn’t be easy.

Canine Castaways…

We said we’d get back in touch the moment we had an update on the fate of our crash-landed cadet crew. We now have that update, but it might not be what you’re expecting to hear.

Thankfully, everyone on board found themselves washed ashore on a beautiful tropical island once the storm’s blistering wind and crazy waves had finally died down. They carried out a quick head count and implemented a buddy system so no dog was left behind, before doing the only thing they could think of… sit tight and wait for someone to rescue them.

This remained the plan (if you can call it a plan) until something rustled through the leaves of the palm trees lining the golden beach, and out walked, of all things, a dog. The dog was very much like any other, only that it seemed to move with a sense of surety and purpose that none of the daycare pooches had ever seen before.
And when, finally, the dog that appeared to be in charge of the rest came out of the trees, a pensive silence fell over the castaway crew as they feared what was to come. Then, in a deep, commanding voice, the leader asked:

“How may we help you, weary travelers”
