So Many Have Found Homes, But We Still Need You.

Thanks to you, adopters have been walking through our doors with open hearts… but there are still so many incredible dogs waiting, watching, hoping that today will be their turn.

We’ve updated our hours to make it easier for you to come meet them:
Tuesday, Thursday–Sunday: 10 AM – 4 PM
Wednesday: 10 AM – 7 PM
(Mondays closed)

And this Sunday, April 27, adoption fees are completely waived. No cost, just the gift of a second chance for a pet who’s been waiting far too long.

Every wag, every gentle nuzzle, every hopeful face in our shelter deserves the warmth of a home. Maybe that home is yours.

Come visit us. Help us bring more tails home.

Sprinkles is full of love, wags, and hope, but what she really needs is a home. With kennels filled beyond limit, we’re urgently asking for the public’s help.

To help ease the pressure, we’re opening our doors this Sunday in hopes of finding more pets their forever homes.

Whether you're ready to adopt, foster, or even just share this post, you can be the reason a dog like Sprinkles gets the second chance she deserves.

National Lost Dog Awareness Day

Meet Susie, a sweet pup who got lost, but thanks to a caring stranger and her microchip, she found her way back home. After being spotted near a gym, Susie was scooped up, treated to a pup cup, and brought to the Western Riverside County/City Animal Shelter. Her owner didn’t have a ride to come get her, so we brought Susie home ourselves.

Stories like this happen every day and in 2024 alone, Riverside County Animal Services helped reunite 3,165 lost pets with their families!

“National Lost Dog Awareness Day is a good reminder that microchips and ID tags help reunite families.” - District 5 Supervisor Yxstian Gutierrez.

That kind of happy ending starts with one simple thing: a microchip.

Keep your pets protected. Make sure they’re microchipped and wearing ID tags. These small steps make all the difference when the unexpected happens.

Need help? We offer free microchipping and ID tags at our RivCo Animal Shelters. Learn more: https://rcdas.org/pet-services

It’s Volunteer Appreciation Week!

This week, we’re throwing all the love and gratitude to our incredible volunteers; the heart and soul behind so much of what we do at DAS.

From walking excited pups and socializing shy kitties, to helping young readers build confidence in our Pawsitive Readers program (and yes, even scrubbing dishes!), our volunteers show up every day with compassion, dedication, and a whole lot of heart.

We truly couldn’t do it without you. You’re not just part of the team, you’re family. And we appreciate you more than words can say.

“Volunteers are the backbone of our community. By volunteering, you can bring positive change to the homeless pets in our community.” District 5 Supervisor Yxstian Gutierrez

04/20/2025

In 2024, RCDAS launched a partnership with PetCo Love Lost, a tool that utilizes facial recognition software to make matches with lost and found pets in shelters. Pet owners can upload a photo of their missing pet, and anyone who finds a pet can do the same. The system then scans for a match in shelter databases or with photos shared by Good Samaritans in the community.

This partnership has led to a 12% increase in dog and cat reunifications with their owners.

RCDAS encourages anyone who has lost or found a pet to use tools like Petco Love Lost, social media, and door-to-door canvassing. This can help reunite you and your pet before it ever enters the shelter.

27 dogs and 1 unforgettable journey.

On April 3rd, 27 dogs took a life-changing ride out of our shelter and straight into their future. Thanks to our dedicated Animal Counselor team, pups like Alfred and Sam have now found their furever homes and are living their best lives, tails wagging and hearts full.

Transfers like these are vital. They give deserving shelter pets the chance to be seen by new adopters in areas with higher demand, opening the door to more loving homes and freeing up space for other animals in need.

A huge thank you to our partners, transport team, and the adopters who saw their sparkle.
