Now through January 31, all donations made to VCA Charities at VCA Animal Hospitals throughout California will support disaster relief efforts, including support for pets impacted by the current devasting fires in the Los Angeles area. VCA Animal Hospitals is proud to support VCA Charities, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in their disaster relief efforts. Every dollar helps local animal welfare organizations shelter, transport and care for pets through grants that fund veterinary care, medication, food, and supplies.

Through grants and partnerships with shelters and animal welfare organizations, VCA Charities help remove barriers to pet ownership and help keep pets in loving homes by funding emergency and specialty veterinary care; supporting adoption readiness and surrender prevention programs; enabling the care and feeding of pets belonging to underserved families; and, responding to our local communities in crisis.

‼️ REMINDER - SALINAS AIR SHOW IS THIS WEEKEND ‼️

The California International Airshow Salinas is this weekend! Residents may have already seen and heard the airplanes and jets passing overhead this week preparing for this weekend’s shows and events. ✈️

While this is a fun and exciting weekend for our community, air shows can be scary times for our furry friends. Please keep the following in mind tomorrow (Friday) through this Sunday during airshow times:

Show times are 11:00am-5:00pm on Saturday and Sunday. 🕚

Leave your pets at home if you are attending! Pets are NOT permitted at this event and should NOT be left in a parked vehicle nearby. ❌

Keep your pets inside! If your pet is fearful of loud sounds or fireworks, they will likely not appreciate the air show the way we do! During the times listed above, keep your pets inside to minimize the sound of the airshow. Much like with fireworks, pets left outside are liable to attempt to escape. 🏠

Confine your pet! Secure crates can be used as safe spaces for animals during times where they make feel anxious. Animals who are left alone in a room or a house can resort to destructive tendencies in attempts to curb their anxiety or in an attempt to escaped a perceived threat (loud noises coming from outdoors). Grab a long-lasting treat, pet-friendly puzzle, your pets’ favorite blanket and toys, and create a safe space for them during the air show times. 🦴

Consult your veterinarian! If your pet is already prescribed Gabapentin and Trazodone for pre-vet-visit anxiety reduction, for fireworks, travel, etc., ask your veterinarian if these medications might be a good idea to use for your pet this weekend! 🧑🏻‍⚕️
