Protect your pet from hot asphalt. Today is going to be a hot one in thr 831 area. The asphalt can be 10-20 degrees hotter than the weather temperature.

Hot surfaces (asphalt, concrete, and sand) can burn pet paws in minutes. Test surfaces by placing the back of your hand on the ground for 10 seconds; if it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their feet.
Stick to grassy areas, walk during cooler hours, or use protective gear.

How to Protect Your PetProtective Footwear:

Equip your dog with Hot Pavement Boots or Canada Pooch Hot Pavement Dog Boots which feature breathable mesh and heat-resistant soles.

Wax and Balms: For light protection and to prevent cracking, apply natural paw balms or waxes, such as Musher’s Secret, before heading out.

Adjust Your Route: Walk your dog on dirt trails, grass, or in shaded areas.

Time It Right: Save walks for early mornings or late evenings when the ground has had time to cool down.

Recognizing Paw Burns-
Signs of burned paw pads include limping, excessive licking or chewing at the paws, and red, blistered, or darker-looking skin.If you suspect your pet has burned feet: Move them to a cool, shaded area immediately.Gently rinse the paws with cool (not cold) water for 5 to 10 minutes to reduce the heat.Contact your local veterinarian for proper care and potential pain or infection management.

As the months get hotter we worry about overheating in our pets. Please remember when leaving in vehicles to open windows, have water available, & leave AC on if possible.

Dehydration in pets is a dangerous medical emergency where the body loses more fluids and electrolytes than it takes in. It can escalate to organ failure or be fatal if left untreated. Immediate veterinary care is required if your pet shows signs of severe lethargy, sunken eyes, or prolonged skin tenting.
