Feline Rescue, Inc. is a Minnesota based no-kill companion cat rescue organization. Our founders established Feline Rescue in 1997 in Minneapolis, MN as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. We are a volunteer based organization. is funded exclusively through donations and grants. We provide rescue and relief to the homeless and endangered cats in our community through programs that offer shelter, foster, social and medical rehabilitation, feral and stray management, spay/neuter subsidy, and community education.

It's your boy Koi here, your local quality assessment specialist for all things cat. My current assignment has me inspecting the hospitality of Feline Rescue.

My opinion on the cuddle quality provided by this place was highly requested by the cat community, so I made sure to spend a lot of time testing out the variety of human surfaces one might cuddle against at the rescue. Laps, hands, feet, shoulders, chins, noses, foreheads, you name it -- I cuddled it. Next I provided running commentary on the dining experience -- reporting back to my host on the taste of each bite. Could use some more tube treats as palate cleansers but otherwise there's a good diversity of wet and dry food options offered here. My inspection was all-inclusive, I evaluated the couch-shaped cat beds, the windows, the cat trees, the flooring, the pet cams and toys offered. Loved the couch-shaped cat bed so much, I am going to take it with me when I leave (perks of the job).

My inspection tool of choice is my head. I believe every quality assessment should include plenty of head bumps and cheek rubs. I will humor attempts to pet down my back too, though I firmly believe the best pets start (and end) in the head region. Sometimes I get so in the zone during a cuddle quality assessment that my wires get a little crossed and I go in for a kibble-testing move when I meant to use a cheek-rubbing one. Embarrassing but I quickly recover my form and focus. Young children and high-energy pets throw off my form and focus during assessments even more, so I can only guarantee the quality of quiet environments with well-established routines.

Which brings me to the reason I introduced myself in the first place: I am looking to take on a new quality assessment case. I did such a good job reassuring the cat community of the quality service at Feline Rescue that I got promoted to private quality assessment specialist! Meet Katniss!

Katniss may start off a little cautious, but giver her a moment and you'll see her sweet, playful heart shine through. This demure girl often greets visitors from the comfort of her cozy bed, quietly taking in the scene before deciding it's safe to say hello. Speak softly to her, and she'll reward you with curious eyes and gentle trust-building steps forward.

Katniss has plenty of kitten energy and a playful streak that really comes alive with want toys. Feather toys, kicker toys and anything that 'lurks' under bedding are irresistible to her. She can be so focused on playtime that she forgets all about pets, though at other times she's happy to rub against you, accept gentle pets and even climb into your lap for a snuggle.

Katniss is also an attentive little observer. She's very interested in the world outside the window and like to keep tabs on her surroundings. If another cat gets too close for comfort, she's not afraid to voice her opinion with a tiny hiss, she knows her boundaries! Sudden noises can startle her, but with patience and reassurance, her confidence continues to grow.

Friendly, spirited and just a touch shy, Katniss is a wonderful mix of sweetness and spark. With a little time to adjust and a family who will nurture her trust, she'll blossom into a devoted, playful companion who keeps you entertained and feeling loved every single day.

Update on Laszlo & Carmilla (Millie)! (Formerly Gumball & Scar) ♥️🖤

They are settling in quite well to the apartment! We have 3 litter boxes and after an initial aversion to pine litter we hoped to use, they have gotten comfortable with a pine/clay mix. We did give them new names, Laszlo (Gumball) and Carmilla, or Millie for short (Scar). They are the cutest and full of playful kitten energy! Laszlo is an acrobat whose current vertical jump record is just under 5 feet high. Millie is becoming quite the cuddler and loves anything she can chase -- she can cross the whole apartment in a few seconds in a pursuit, if needed.

Jaws is missing one eye and all of his teeth but that does not slow him down one bit. He is curious, chatty, playful, and loves attention from his humans (on his terms of course). Do you need an accountability buddy for your desk job? He will lay on your lap for hours, forcing you to stay at your desk and work! He will also lay on your lap as you watch TV, and on top of you as you sleep. I can only imagine how snuggly he's going to get as winter sets in! He is a really sweet gentleman and the perfect lap warmer. He'll even let you
switch positions if you're gentle about it. So considerate!

Jaws has feline lower urinary tract disease and is on a prescription urinary diet to help prevent urinary complications. He is great about using the litter box. Because he has no teeth, his food needs to be soft so he is fed almost
exclusively canned food, as his preferences dictate. On a related note, he will NOT chew up your stuff or bite!!!!
Jaws has Dry Eye in his remaining eye, and will need lubricating eye drops twice daily or more. He also has arthritis and takes gabapentin twice daily to help with stress and abdominal and arthritis pain. His medical needs are not very burdensome but they do require consistency. That being said, he's worth the extra effort. He is affectionate and loves life, and he will show you that he loves you as well!

Jaws feels very comfortable around big dogs right away. He takes a long time to warm up to other cats, 7+ weeks, but is showing steady progress during supervised visits. Jaws is a vocal kitty and will meow when he wants something, and to
communicate little things. He loves chin scratches and pets, but only for so long. Once his tail starts whipping around, the petting shall come to an end and a choice will be made: 1) lay on lap undisturbed 2) lay nearby undisturbed or 3) retreat to a favorite spot for alone time.

Jaws would thrive in an environment where his people are home most of the day, but if not, if he has a friendly dog to hang out with.

Benny is a sweet 11 year old cat who was rescued from his past owner's house after they had passed away. He was left alone for an unknown amount of time and has definitely experienced a lot of stress and change in these last couple of months, but is now ready for a new family who will give him the love he deserves.

When he arrived at his foster home he was very wary of his surroundings, but quickly showed affection to his fosters. Benny is a sleepy old boy, and spends a lot of his time napping under furniture, but loves to come out and to greet his fosters and get pets and head scratches. He is most active in the evening and enjoys playing and sitting next to his fosters on the couch.

Benny is not the most active cat, partially due to his arthritis and is on Gabapentin to help with any pain. His past owner also had his front paws declawed, but despite this he loves to scratch on his cardboard scratcher. Benny is currently on a diet as he came to Feline Rescue overweight, but is super food motivated and will give you a lot of extra affection when he knows it is meal time. Benny can also be vocal, he meows when he knows it's meal time, but may hiss if his boundaries are pushed. Due to this Benny will do best in a quieter home with no younger kids with someone who is willing to be patient as he warms up to you. We do not know how Benny will react to other cats or dogs, but due to all the stress he has already been through, a home without resident pets will be best.

If you're willing to give Benny the time he needs to warm up to you he will repay you with his goofy theatrics, flamboyant charm and loving personality!
