Clear the Shelters: Meet Jazzy

Jazzy is a newer guy who came to us from our rescue partners Operation Dog Tag - Ft Benning. Jazzy is a 1 year old neutered male pittie mix, who was found as a stray. He's a beautiful brindle color and just about 50lbs.

Jazzy is all around a happy dude and although we do no not know much about his past we do know that he is sweet and full of love. Jazzy is heartworm positive and will be going through treatment with KCHF and our vet partners.

Jazzy had a brief stay at a foster home before coming to KCHF and his fosters have nothing but good things to say about him. He eats well, slept great, and has zero accidents in the house. He is pretty calm, just wants attention and a very good boy. Oh and he loves toys!! He also liked to help the kids with household chores like supervising the vacuuming.

Jazzy is kid friendly and dog friendly - and with continued guidance can live with cats too. He is crate trained and house trained. Fill out an application and come meet Jazzy you will not be disappointed.

The reality of animal rescue is currently quite sad with dozens of calls and emails each and everyday to intake more animals.

Behind every one photo of an adorable kitten or cat ready and waiting for adoption on social media is several other rescues we have behind the scenes working on keeping them safe, healthy and most importantly fed.

From our recent bottle babes to our 3 week old stray polydactyl, these are just two of the many faces behind the scenes we are currently helping.

Right now, our cats and kittens are in urgent need of FOOD and FOSTERS.

WE NEED CAN CAT AND KITTEN FOOD.
Our shelves are getting DANGEROUSLY low. Whether you can donate a case of wet food, or even a few cans — every single donation matters. Donations can be sent from your favorite retailer to either rescue or dropped off in person.

Meet Pepper

Pepper, previously known as sassy girl, is a 1 year old beautiful tabby gal who is not quite as her name describes. She came to us in June and is reported to be friendly, sweet and happy for attention. She will rub her face on the kennel bars to get a pet from the visitors. We know she’d be thrilled to meet her people today and head back to a loving family.

Meet Dante!

Dante recently came to KCHF from a high-risk shelter down south, and this handsome young Malinois mix is already proving what a fabulous boy he is! We estimate Dante is about 1½ years old, and he is neutered.

Dante is currently living in a foster home and is checking ALL the boxes:

🐾 Happy, playful, and affectionate

Dante knows some basic commands and is working on his obedience skills with his foster family and Ryan K9 so he can become the very best canine citizen!

This week, Dante had a vet visit to check on some mange on his face. The good news is that it is not contagious, and he is healing beautifully. He was such a good boy at the vet and for his much needed bath! Dante was a little, well… smelly when he arrived, so we were more than happy to get him cleaned up. He was absolutely perfect for his bath and even let us use the blow dryer. What a gentleman!

As a young Malinois, Dante has plenty of energy and loves having a job to do. But after some fun and exercise, he is more than happy to settle in for some cuddles.

Dante loves people, enjoys the company of other dogs, and would make an amazing addition to an active family who wants their dog to truly be part of their everyday life.

Unfortunately, Dante did test positive for heartworms. He has already begun our heartworm treatment protocol, and we want potential adopters to know that they will not be going through this alone. KCHF will support Dante and his adopter throughout his treatment and will continue to do so until he is no longer heartworm positive. ❤️

This fabulous boy is ready for a family of his own. He has so much love to give and we know his forever family is out there!

Dog cat and kid friendly: ready for any home and available to meet at the shelter during open hours today until 330p!

Meet Sully, another wonderful dog available at a reduced adoption through Clear the Shelters!

Sully is a young neutered male mix breed who found himself without a family and at our shelter looking for a fresh start. He is a quickly finding himself to be a staff favorite, especially Bekka with his snuggly personality.

This dude is the sweetest, most loving young man who just doesn’t photograph the best. He recently went on a dog date with volunteers and had an absolute fabulous time. He got a bath, went for a walk and was rated an A++ car passenger.

We aren’t totally sure why this perfect dude lost his family, but we hope to get him into a new loving home very soon! For the month of August, Sully’s adoption is reduced to $150!

Today is a busy day for us and the KCHF dogs! You can come meet our dogs today with no appointment.

We will have a couple dogs the first ever Illinois Pet Expo Jennifer's Garden Banquet and Convention Center in Morris starting at 10am!

We also have open hours at the shelter from 12pm - 3:30pm

These events are part of our Clear the Shelters campaign with Hill’s Pet Nutrition and it's not to late to take care of the adoption specials we are running this month! We have so many deserving animals in our care waiting for a loving home. Don't hestiate to stop by and meet them today!!

Someone just dumped a box of kittens at our door! Luckily one of our staff members found them. Is anyone available to foster? We will provide everything you need.
