What an absolutely amazing day we had today!

The rain early on didn’t ruin any of our fun at the last Kankakee Farmers' Market nor our Howl-O-Ween donut deliveries in partners with Josephine’s Bakeshop!

This was another amazing fundraiser for the animals in our care and some of our donut stops actually gave us treats to take back too!

Some highlights were Grover received a toy he absolutely loved, Carson for his very first BOO basket AND Laddie’s last donut stop sponsored half of his adoption donation to help his future family get him a home he has waited so patiently for since March of this year. 🥹

If you took any additional photos today, drop them in the comments! Thank you to all our volunteers who helped get 10 dogs out of the shelter today to spread joy this Halloween at both events! Every one of these cuties is looking for a home of their Own. Check out our website to apply to adopt with us!

We hope everyone had a great day and has Safe Rest of your Halloween tonight!

Meet Ozzie!

Ozzie is a one year old, spayed female pittie mix who came to us after being transferred from a high risk animal control facility down south, with her sister Oona. Oona was adopted back in May and now it’s sweet Ozzie’s turn to find her family!

Ozzie travels in the car well, is medium size and will require another dog in Her future home to help build her confidence.

Ozzie is dog friendly, cat friendly and all people friendly, although she is nervous, she is a kind, sweet dog. She will require someone with patience and calmness that lets her slowly open up!

Meet Nutmeg!

Nutmeg is a sweet young pup who came to us from a high-risk shelter. We were told she isn’t even a year old, but you’d never know it! This girl is soooo well behaved for a puppy. She knows her basic commands, listens well, and is always eager to please.

Nutmeg is the total package and would make a wonderful family dog!
Dog friendly ✅
Cat friendly ✅
Kid friendly ✅
Sweet, loving, and all-around a great girl ✅

Nutmeg is heartworm positive, but don’t let that stop you from meeting her. She has received her first injection and KCHF will provide all the treatment she needs and will support her adopter every step of the way until she’s negative.

Nutmeg is an absolute dreamboat, and we know someone is going to be very lucky to call her theirs!

Come meet Nutmeg and see for yourself!

Meet Archie and Alice!

These two very lucky tabby babies were found by a Good Samaritan near Shapiro when they were just days old. Mom’s care is always the best care, but little Alice was discovered to have part of her tail and rear leg missing.

The finders weren’t sure if it was a birth defect or an injury, but knew her chances at survival being left behind were low.

Both babies were brought to our care and Over the course of the next several weeks, their foster mom has been taken the best care of them where they have continued to grow and know love.

While Alice and Archie aren’t ready for a home just yet, they will be ready for adoption in a couple weeks. We would love to find a perfect home to welcome both babies into to make the transition seamless from their foster to another loving home when they are ready!

Apply below to get the process started! We certainly can arrange a meet even before they are ready to head off to their forever family!

Sunny side is always up!

Meet Sunshine!

Back in January a Good Samaritan brought us a skinny little pittie with some wounds who had been found as a stray. She was microchipped and transferred over to Kankakee County Animal Control to wait for her owner to step forward, but nobody ever came.

Sunshine is about 3 years old, spayed and up to date on vaccines. She does have some stranger danger insecurities, likely from her previous life. She is happy, loving and the ultimate cuddle bug to our staff and we know in the right home she will excel.

She did well meeting dogs her size, but will pass on homes with any small dogs, cats or chickens. Sunshine can be a little grabby with treats and takes them better with an open palm.

Feel the warmth and love, add a little Sunshine to your life.

Meet Warren!

Warren hopes to roundup a family of his own after waiting with us for 2 years!

*sponsored adoption to perfect home*

Since October 2024, this handsome almost 9 year old neutered male retriever mix has been patiently waiting for his forever home after being returned to us. He came in with some pretty bad allergies that is currently well managed with the help from Razzle Dazzle Doggie Bow-tique and Zignature Turkey kibble as his primary diet and no medication!

Warren is the total package: friendly, loyal, and always ready to brighten your day with his wagging tail and sweet personality. Whether it’s a walk in the park, a game of fetch, or just lounging by your side, Warren is happiest when he’s with his people, but it does take a little while to warm up which is why he’s been with us a while. He is dog friendly, travels with ease but will pass on homes with cats.

He’s been such a good boy during his time with us, is a staff favorite and knows some basic commands. After over a year in our care, he deserves a cozy home, a comfy bed, and a family to call his own.

While we’ve loved to host this young man, Warren has been waiting long enough—could you be the one to welcome him back to a home he deserves?
